Katie has strict orders to REST!

My big girl has been ordered to stay off her feet as much as possible. She has been having problems with one of her back legs, her GOOD back leg. She has been limping on it for a little while. It seemed to be much better, but yesterday we went for a nice walk and by that evening Katie couldn't put any weight on her back leg. It was heartbreaking to watch her try and get up last night. She still could not put weight on it this morning so I called the vet as soon as he opened up. Luckily I was able to take her right in. The doc really manipulated her leg, poked, squeezed, twisted and moved it all around. This didn't bother Katie at all. She just looked back at him like he was being silly. Doc said everything felt fine, including her hips. He said there is a slight bit of swelling around the inner thigh area and he is thinking that maybe she has just strained or pulled a muscle. Soo, she is taking deramaxx now and has been ordered to REST for 2 weeks. No walks, no running, no jumping and no wrestling with her little sister. We are to keep her off her feet as much as possible, except for little walks around the yard to go potty. *SIGH*..this is going to be a long 2 weeks. I think the problem is going to be dealing with Tori..lol. We might just have to drag out their crates again

Here are some pics of my girl, Katie

I love this one..lol..she was looking up at Alden and sticking her tongue out at him.

    Isn't she so sweet!?

Keep your fingers crossed that 2 weeks of rest will do the trick for Kate's leg. Thanks for letting me share!

Awwww I'm so sorry to hear that your leg is bothering you worse now sweetheart. Your too young to be having these problems, so you just rest a while and hopefully you'll be back to your old self in no time!
    Lots of Hugs and Kisses!!!

Robin, I'm sorry to hear this. I know it must be hard to see her like this and it's going to be even harder making Tori realize she can't play rough with her sister again I feel for ya.
If Tori needs some play time just send her down here and Bon will play with her till her hearts content

If I were you, I would want 2 diagnostics tests done to this dog.

    1) the "drawer" test to check for injuries/tears to the cruciate ligament

    2) exrays by a SPECIALIST to check for canine hip dysplasia.

Many dogs with HD will not indicate issues upon manipulation.

Best of luck with her recovery.

Poor Katie!!! Sure hope those two weeks rest willhelp!! And Poor Tori!!!

We are going to be in a similar situation soon. Sadie needs to ahve surgery to remove two lumps she has growing (hopefully just fatty tumors!), one on her chest and one on her back leg. The vet said she'll needs about 10 days of quiet time afterward. May be some crates around here too!!

It's going to be hard for Tori to comply with that one, Robin - good luck! She's going to be so concerned about her big sister, she'll want to check on her constantly! I hope Katie's feeling better quickly. She is such a doll, a truly beautiful spirit! Your photos of her are lovely.
Please give both your girls a big big hug from us, and (((hugs))) to you as well. -- sure hoping to see Tori over Labor Day, but we understand if you pass.

Amy & Ralph - hugs to your crew as well, we'll keep Sadie in our prayers, too. Hope that sweet girl gets through this with no complications.

Oh, Amy...I hate to hear that about Sadie! I'll be keeping her in my thoughts and sending out lots of well wishes. Hopefully it is nothing but fatty tumers. Give her a big hug from me. I love that girl!

Pat, I'm definitely coming to Findlay and I'm hoping to bring Katie with me so that you can finally meet her in person

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! So far everything has been going smoothly. I'm getting ready to take Tori a walk now so we can burn off some of her energy..lol.

I am so sorry to hear that Katie isn't feeling well. Ginger had a torn ligament a couple of weeks ago, but it healed very quickly. I hope that Katie's boo-boo is something minor and gets better soon. I love that sweet, beautiful face.

Sorry to hear that Ginger had some problems also but that is encouraging that it healed quickly. I hope that is the case for Katie also.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Yesterday wasn't too bad. The girls were good and didn't cause me too much grief..lol. I took Tori for a nice walk to burn off some of her energy and Katie was not too happy to be left behind. They were pretty good and it wasn't until evening that they wanted to get a little rowdy and the one trying to get things started was Katie herself. I had to grab hold of her collar and make her sit by me. She was trying so hard to pester Tori and get her to play with her. Tori was a very good girl yesterday and I'm proud of her
