    Your State / Province/ Territory / Country

I love geography and I love to travel. Tell me something interesting about where you live.... I'll start. I live in Alaska. It is the largest state in the United States. Here's a map showing Alaska in relation to the rest of the U.S.

586,400 square miles - We are 2 times the size of Texas
    We have 29 volcanoes
    33,000 miles of coastline!
    1,400 miles North to South
    2,700 miles East to West
    Over 1/2 the world's Glaciers
    55 miles east of Russia
We are the only state to have coastlines on three different seas.
(Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea.)

I live in Minnesota.. I decided to include some things other than land mass/population type info that I thought might be interesting about my state!

    * The Mall of America in Bloomington is the size of 78 football fields --- 9.5 million square feet.

    * Minnesota Inventions: Masking and Scotch tape, Wheaties cereal, Bisquick, HMOs, the bundt pan, Aveda beauty products, and Green Giant vegetables

    * Minneapolis is home to the oldest continuously running theater (Old Log Theater) and the largest dinner theater (Chanhassan Dinner Theater) in the country.

    * Minneapolis has more golfers per capita than any other city in the country.

    * The climate-controlled Metrodome is the only facility in the country to host a Super Bowl, a World Series and a NCAA Final Four Basketball Championship.

    * Minnesota has 90,000 miles of shoreline, more than California, Florida and Hawaii combined.

    * The first open heart surgery and the first bone marrow transplant in the United States were done at the University of Minnesota.

    * In 1919 a Minneapolis factory turned out the nations first armored cars.

    * Tonka Trucks were developed and are continued to be manufactured in Minnetonka.

    * Minnesota has one recreational boat per every six people, more than any other state.

    * Minnesota's waters flow outward in three directions: north to Hudson Bay in Canada, east to the Atlantic Ocean, and south to the Gulf of Mexico.

    * At the confluence of the Big Fork and Rainy Rivers on the Canadian border near International Falls stands the largest Indian burial mound in the upper midwest. It is known as the Grand Mound historic site.

    * The first official hit in the Metrodome in Minneapolis was made by Pete Rose playing for the Cincinnati Reds in a preseason game.

Major Rivers - Mississippi River, Ohio River, Illinois River
Bordering States - Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin
Very agricultural in the north, called the "Prarie State" for it's historic praries, which through succession after being cut down have turned into temperate forsests. In the south it is hilly.

Sice I consider Arizona my home state here a few things not to do while visiting as the are laws

Donkeys may not sleep in bathtubs

A misdemeanor is considered a felony if you commit it while wearing a red mask.

You can be hung for horse rustling

You may not hunt camels (we have a high wild camel population)

It is unlawful to refuse a person a glass of water

You may not make "ugly faces" at dogs on Sunday

Texas, the Lone Star State, Fun Facts
Texas is called the Lone Star State because of the state flag's design: a broad vertical blue stripe at left, centered by a single white star, with horizontal bars of white and red on the right. Red means courage, White means liberty and Blue stands for loyalty. The star has five points, one for each letter of the state's name. The word "Texas" comes from a Hasinai Indian word, "Tejas," which means friends or allies.

Texas has 624 miles of coastline running along the Gulf of Mexico. There are 254 counties in Texas. It was the 28th state to enter the union, joining the United States on Dec. 29, 1845.

    State Flag - Lone Star
    state mammel - Longhorn
    state flower - the Bluebonnet
    State Capital: Austin, Texas
    State Motto: Friendship
State Nickname: The Lone Star State
    State Bird: Mockingbird
    State Song: "Texas, Our Texas"
The music was written by the late William J. Marsh, and the words by Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright, both of Fort Worth. It was adopted in 1929.
    State Fish: Guadalupe bass
    State Dish: Chili
    State Fruit: Texas red grapefruit
    State Tree: Pecan
State Seashell: Lightning Whelk, found only on the Gulf Coast
    State Insect: Monarch butterfly
    State Folk Dance: Square dance
    State Gem: Texas blue topaz

these are just some fun facts. i'll go over the great stuff to do another time...

-The smallest of Canada's three Northern Territories. Total population about 30,000, 70% of those people live in Whitehorse. There are twice as many moose in the Territory as there are people and more than three times as many dogs.

-The Yukon River is North America's third biggest river at 2200 miles long. It is only fully open to navigation 3 months a year. It is the longest, least developed river in the world. The word Yukon means Great River.
-If you don't work in government, tourism or mining, you are likely unemployed!
-The Alaska Highway was built in 1942 by the US military, thinking that they would need to defend and use Alaska for defense in WW2. Construction continues on the highway every summer!
-14 First Nations claim the Yukon, they speak 8 different languages.

-Home to Canada's oldest casino, Diamond Tooth Gertie's in Dawson City.

During the gold rush in 1896, the population soared to over 40, 000 people. This is Bonanza Creek, site of the first gold discovery that sparked the Klondike Gold Rush.

The official bird is the Raven, the flower is Fireweed.
