OMG! this is terrible! i can't believe someone would just go on with their day, forgetting about the dogs that depend on them to feed and care for them! i'm sending this link to all my siberian husky breeder, rescue, show dog friends. i'm sure some of them could help!

How could some one be so light hearted towards those beautiful dogs thats just horrible Im so glad the dogs where discovered and at least some lives were saved Im sorry for the rest.

Thank God for this caring man Guy Racicot. I love that he says he doesn't want to give them to the SPCA because he doesn't want them to be put down. "They've been through enough," he said.

'Only one has spirit in his eyes'
World steps in to help feed 24 huskies rescued from kennel this week

People from as far away as Sweden are pitching in to help care for 24 starving husky dogs rescued this week from a kennel in St. Jean de Matha, about 80 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

One puppy and an adult dog were already dead when Guy Racicot, owner of a neighbouring kennel, found the animals at his competitor's kennel Tuesday night. Racicot persuaded the owner to give him the 26 surviving dogs.

Two of the animals have died since then.

The Surete du Quebec said the kennel had been cleaned and the owner could not be found when investigators arrived.

"It's not a pretty sight," Racicot said of the dogs' condition.

"Only one of them still has the spirit in his eyes. The other ones look like they're waiting to die."

Racicot said he went to the kennel to pick up some dog houses he'd stored there after the dogsledding season ended. He discovered the carcass of one adult husky still on its chain and a dead puppy nearby.

Racicot runs a dogsledding expedition company with two partners. He's been in the business for seven years and said he used to work with the owner of the kennel where the huskies were found.

Media attention has prompted people to donate money and dog food, and volunteer their labour to care for the rescued dogs.

Racicot's family have been flooded with calls from across Canada and from California, New York and Sweden. One woman has offered to groom the huskies free for a year.

About $500 has been received and $3,000 has been pledged.

Pierre Barnoti, executive director of the Montreal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said he's disturbed by the discovery of the dogs.

"If the animals are in need of treatment, the SPCA will take them in," he said.

But Racicot said he wants to keep the dogs, Barnoti noted.

The SPCA has 137 years experience protecting animals, Barnoti added.

"We're not making any accusations, but we're here to save them. It's our mandate."

Racicot said he doesn't want to give the dogs to the SPCA because he doesn't want them to be put down. "They've been through enough," he said.

Racicot said he does not plan to work the dogs, but wants to find them homes. He's also thinking of using the money people are donating to open a refuge for retired sled dogs, if some animals cannot be adopted because of behavioural problems caused by the starvation.

Racicot now has a total of 105 sled dogs, including those he rescued this week.

The SQ said the dogs aren't going anywhere until a veterinarian can examine them.

God bless Guy Racicot for working so hard to help these huskies. Sounds like the article in the paper brought some much-needed response. I truly don't understand how anyone could keep that many dogs tied up and not feed them for two weeks. That guy doesn't deserve to own even one! Hope this doesn't turn into a tug-of-war between Guy R. & the Canadian Humane society, there seems to be some tension between them, from that story.
