    Is my puppy depressed?

Maybe someone can help me out here......
Our new puppy that we got over the weekend is about 9 weeks old. She is border collie mix we think. She eats very little and plays even less. She is very sweet and has a great disposition. But could she be depressed? It seems odd to me that she does not play for very long and then wants to rest.
Has anyone else had this problem? Not that it is a real problem. I just find it odd.

Have you had a Vet look her over? If, not I'd do it ASAP.It isn't normal
for a weeks old pup to be anything but active. Good luck.

I would definitely take her to the vet right away, for a 9-week-old pup, especially a Border Collie pup, to be that inactive is not normal. If she is otherwise healthy, according to the vet, maybe she is just missing her mom and siblings, but even our less-active breed pups were very playful at that age.

From where did you get her? Did you get to see the mom and the other pups in the litter? Did they seem healthy?

She may be adjusting to the new home and being away from mom and littermates as was suggested. Of course a vet visit is a definite must to make sure she checks out okay. When Tasha was that age, she would play for awhile, crash and sleep like a log for a bit, then up and play for a bit followed by more snoozing . Her first night home she seemed more interested in sleeping though and it seems like it took her a couple days to really adjust and become herself. I hope all is well with her.

Thanks for the advice. She will go to the vet tomorrow. I guess I painted a pretty dismal picture. She does play for a while but she snoozes more than what I am used to. We got her from a save-a-pet adoption that the local shelters put on. She had no mama or siblings on the premises but she was in a pen with 6 or 8 other puppies. Otherwise, her coat is shiny. And she comes to life when I walk in the room. She stays nearby us in the house. I rarely leave her alone because I am trying hard to house break her. Maybe I am wearing her out.

Oh, good. Hope all is okay, pups usually sleep a fair amount, but get into enough mischeif when awake to make up for it!

Maybe I'm part puppy, because Dad describes my early years as "go all out 90 miles an hour, then CRASH - collapse asleep wherever you were." He'll describe sudden quiet as knwing I'd finally conked out, then finding me asleep in a doorway, halfway crawling up a chair, on the bottom stairs ... hey, I wasn't picky!
