Naughty Tess

Being a new puppy owner, I must say this little girl is testing my patience but good. I finally had to put her on a leash even in the house to keep her out of mischief. We had a much better evening though and I was able to settle down a little. Wow dogs are just full of it!!!! I thought kittens were a challenge . I'm sure Tess and I will finally get to understand each other soon. After tomorrow I don't need to be back to work until Jan. 7th so we'll have a lot of quality time together. Got a nasty letter from the Board of Directors at the Condo complex I live in - apparently I'm in violation of the Rules and Regulations for having too many animals and they've fined me $100.00 for having Tess. Needless to say, I'm upset because my animals are not allowed to roam the neighborhood like so many others - I called the chairman and basically told her to kiss my ###@@@!!!. We'll see what happens.

Argh, why some people always have to complain about somehting? It's not like your pets are running around like you said! I guess they didn't have better things to do then. And 100 dollars for that then? That's not fair!

Hope you have a really good time with Tess then, and hopefully she'll behave!

Purrley, How many animals do you have and who is complaining? Darn neighbors!! Why do people discriminte against animals so much!?! It drives me nuts!! I work at a restaurant part-time and I have this theory...They say you can't bring in dogs because it's against the health code but why...???? If I brought my dog to a restaurant, he would sit next to me quietly and wait until he got outside to relieve himself, much UNLIKE babies, who scream at the table and relieve themselves in their diapers right there at the table!!! It's ironic isn't it!!

Jenn - I have 4 cats and my little chi. You're right about the kids - our Home Owners Association says I can only have 1 pet, but people can have as many damn kids as they want which turn out to be a hell of a lot more destructive than animals. Just last summer there was a group of kids going around and destroying all the sprinkler heads in the area - yes, very, very ironic - anyways there is no possible way I would ever, ever, give up any of my furkids, I don't care what they do to me!!!!

And if you dare make a comment about the "rambunctious" children, you will be ostracized for hating children!! And people feel that it is OK to discriminate against pets but not children or some reason. I mean I love most children but I don't feel Duncan should have to stay home all the time when there are 75 children raising a ruckus somewhere. I make it a point of asking if I can bring him whenever I go to a picnic, house party, events like that. If I can't bring him, sometimes I don't go because I'm not that thrilled about going in the first place and I would rather stay home and take him to play! Obviously it means more to Duncan that I'm there with them than it does to the people who invited me or else they would have said yes!!! (Assuming they are ABLE to have me...no allergies, babies, any other factors that would not permit a large black dog!! : )...) I'm a jerk aren't I!!! (HA HA!)

I agree!! I hate how badly-behaved, out of control, screaming children are often considered "cute" or "just being kids," and yet the most well-behaved, quiet animal gets glared at (or worse). And people do seem to feel uncomfortable with folks like my DH and I who have animals but no children, as if we hate kids or something. I'd not be surprised if we got a few more dogs and the neighbors started complaining about the ruckus while their own kids ran amuck in the streets at all hours...*sigh*

Purrley, I would try to resolve something with the condo board of directors. Unfortunately these kind of situations can get really sticky and you don't want to have it escalate to the point where they can't back down, so to speak. These people serve to enforce the rules which are written down. This puts you in a difficult position. Maybe you can appeal to their sense of fairness in that your animals are all little ones, ones that don't cause noise or disturbance, etc. etc. I really feel badly for you, but I honestly don't feel that telling anyone where to get off is going to be in your best interest. Good luck. Let us know what transpires.

Rachel, you're probably right about that but it feels good to tell them off..what is the point of the rules? I mean what goal are they trying to accomplish by limiting the # of animals?

Rachel - you have made a good point - the problems within this condo complex is that there are some, making it bad on others, who do not take care of their animals, let them run loose, barking and causing disturbances and it's these people who make it bad for everyone else - hence the rule of limiting the # of pets one can have. My feeling is that no one should have a pet unless it is cared for and does not cause problems for anyone else. The only way is to make it a rule which applies to everyone (even me) a limit on animals. But like I'll say again, there should be a limit on kids and people for that matter - the condos are all single family dwellings and sometimes as many as 10 people will live in a 2 or 3 bedroom condo.

Purrley, I truly do feel sorry for you, and although I agree with you, I think you will have to be careful with the Board of Directors of the Condo complex, they have all the power, try to reason with them so that they don't take a hard stand as Rachel said and not want to back down. At this time of my life I will take furkids any time, we have two Grandsons that can demolish a restaurant, our home, and anywhere they go to rubble, it is an embarressment I hate to deal with, when their parents just sit and watch. It has been enough to make our youngest daughter decide not to have any kids.

Purrley, every single rental I've ever lived in DOES limit the number of residents - it's standard to restrict the number to twice the bedrooms - a 3 bedroom unit would have a 6 resident restriction. Even if the association doesn't, your local municipality might.

Check into this. If there are indeed too many residents in some units, and the association refuses to enforce that rule, you MAY be able to legally prevent them from enforcing the pets rule.
