Yorkies?

Can anyone who owns or has experience with Yorkies give me some insight? General temperment, sizes, schedules, that type of thing. Are they good with other dogs? Would bringing one into Bailey's life be a positive thing do you think? I've done some research, but I'd like some more personal feedback. Thank you.

I have 2 yorkies, a male and a female. I fell in love with the breed almost 10 years ago, after meeting my aunt's yorkie. I was finally able to get one last year and Bailey is the love of my life.

Both of my yorkies are standard size. Bailey weighs in (full grown) at just over 5lbs. I think 5.2 last time we weighed him. Molly is still growing and is a tad heavier than Bailey, I'm guessing she'll be 6 - 6.5lbs full grown.

They both have very wonderful temperments, love people, and are very much terriers. They are both pretty energetic, and are both lap dogs. They like nothing else but to sit in my lap all day. They are very curious and get into things constantly. I thought baby proofing the house would be hard - it ain't nothing compared to 'yorkie proofing it'

They've both been VERY well socialized from the day I've had them so they are VERY good with other people/dogs. Having lived with Dozer (our other boy) since we got them has also helped, I think.

I don't know what you mean by 'schedules' (care to elaborate?) so I can't help you there and I don't know Bailey's 'situation'.

All in all, I am in total love with the breed and can't see myself without one of these lovers, now that I know how wonderful they are

i've had two yorkies. it was a few years back. they are great little dogs. they are one of the hardest breeds to housebreak. they can be anywhere between 3-7 lbs. although my first yorkie was 13 lbs as an adult! he wasn't fat, just a HUGE yorkie.

bringing a new yorkie into the household with another dog can work. but it's really up to both dogs. some yorkies can be dog aggresive. it's the terrier in them. fortinatly mine were great with other dogs. they were thouroghly soceilized. if you want a puppy you may not have any problems, but if you are going to adopt an adult, you definatly want to introduce the two dogs on neutral grounds like a dog park or a neighbor's fenced yard.

Oh yea, Lute reminded me of a good point.

Yorkies are NOTORIOUS for being hard to potty train. I think all small breeds are hard but I've owned 4 different small breed dogs and my 2 yorkies were the hardest to train.

Bailey was 50% pottytrained at 6 months (didn't poop in the house but still peed). He just recently became fully pottytrained at about a year old

Molly is 7 months old and is just now getting the hang of going outside to go potty. I'm guessing it'll be another few months before she's fully trained as well...

thank you for the info.. i guess what i mean by 'schedule' is like... daily routines... sleeping habits, generally how often etc. walks, food etc. i know every dog is different but wasnt sure if anything was particular to their breed. Bailey is paralyzed from the waist down... he wears a diaper to avoid accidents.. he can run, go up and down stairs, just can't jump very high... he gets tired after about 20 min. of playtime and likes to rest for a few before going back at it, would this be too 'inactive' a situation, do you think, for a yorkie? again i thank you for your imput.

yorkie puppies, like all puppies, sleep a lot. a good run in a fenced yard or a walk will keep a yokie in shape. if you get a puppy you could teach the puppy when enough is enough when playing with Bailey. an adult dog may want to play play all the time. may be too much for Bailey.

if you choose to get a yorkie PLEASE be sure not to get one from a petstore or a puppy mill. i rescued my second yorkie from a puppy mill. a lot of their puppies end up having heart, and breathing problems. just be sure to double check where you get your dog. shelters/rescues are always the best place to find a dog.

lol! My mothers yorkie RAN the household. She used to hang from our 120lb wolf mixes nose when he pissed her off. She thought she was 9ft tall/1000lbs XD
