The only idea I have is from a one time experience with a UTI that was extremely stubborn to get rid of. I'm not even sure this will help at all as Peanut is already on Baytril.

Tinkerbelle had one and yes there was blood eventually. I took her in and they prescribed clavamox. Things went fine she finished the meds and then went for the retest and all clear. Then about a week later it came back with a vengeance and she was taken back, she was vomitting now, slowly dehydrating and lethargic, it was really quick. They kept her did all sorts of tests, xrays, you name it. They were baffled. This was my very first experience with a UTI ever.

They switched her to Baytril shots, once a day for a week because of the nausea she seemed to be having from oral meds. She actually had another shot so nothing would upset her tummy.

They decided that either the Clavamox was not effective with her UTI or that she was sensitive to it in a bad way.

I noticed an improvement within 48 hrs. with the blood and straining.

She recovered quickly and fully after that. I just wonder if it's the same with them as human's, sometimes one medication will work for one person and not another. I'm wondering if a different antibiotic would work.

I'd run that one by the vet.

I hope they get to the bottom of this really quickly, it's heartbreaking to watch them suffer like that and not know what to do.

    Get well soon Peanut!

    Oh no!

Ok, now I'm worried. He wants me to bring her in for an ultrasound to make sure she doesn't have a tumor in her bladder.

We're going to finish the antibiotics and add a pain killer and then next Monday she'll have an ultrasound.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I certainly hope it is nothing as serious as that! Peanut, please be good and get better. Hope the meds do the trick and I hope Peanut is not in any pain. Keep us posted and good luck with the ultrasound. Hopefully, it is just a precaution and will find nothing. Hugs and good thoughts on their way!

Oh no, Debbie- I hope this is just a thing to judge something out.

We keep our paws crossed. These days many PT kitties will sit with crossed paws all the time!

We're hoping the meds kick in long before that and that the ultra sound isnt necessary.

    Peanut is in our prayers.

Oh Debbie, please don't panic. I'm sure your vet is very thorough and just wants to make sure of things before proceeding.

Mega prayers on the way that the ultrasound reveals nothing. I see the prayer pups are doing their thing so I just know a miracle will happen.

Thanks everybody but.....sorry Slick, I'm starting to panic! I remember last night Peanut was not upstairs with us, which she usually is. I went down to see where she was at and.....she was laying in the exact same spot where Tubby spent his last days! She normally does not lay there and I remember thinking at the time that it was odd she was sleeping there - why there?

So ever since I remembered that about an hour ago, I've been trying to hold back the panic. I'm busy here at work so I'm trying not to let my imagination runaway, but gosh darnit all I want to do is leave and get her to the vet NOW!

Probably part of what is fueling my panic also is the fact that we're leaving tomorrow to go to Texas to pick up the new motorhome and P & CJ are not coming with us since it will just be long days of driving with no fun stuff thrown in..... We're not leaving bright and early so I thought I could get her in early tomorrow morning, but my boss's mother is having surgery so I thought I'd be nice and come to work for a few hours to help him out.....drat, why did I tell him that?

So, I need to calm down. Peanut is still eating and drinking fine and acting completely normal, so it can't be anything too bad....can it?

I'm sorry to hear about your Peanut. It's frustrating not knowing what exactly is wrong with them. Is it possible Peanut has become resistant to the type of antibiotic given? Maybe trying a different type? I found out, too, that the clumping litter causes more UTI's in cats than the clay litter as the small grains "clump" onto any area that touches it when they go. Also learned to be careful with clay litter that has scents in it as some kitties are sensitive to the perfumes/deodorants. Of course, I'm sure I'm restating what you already know. Lots of cuddles to Peanut and prayers for a speedy, easy recovery.

Debbie stay calm- the main thing is about peeing and you'll know that by tomorrow. It's a good sign if she is eating and acting normal.

Don't let it haunt you that she slept on that spot- she didn't feel purrfect- so she wanted to be alone and that spot obviously is best (in terms of Feng Shui) for cats who don't feel ok.

Will Peanut be boarding at the vet's while you are away? If not, I highly recommend it, especially since there are questions unanswered. You will feel better knowing she is there, and her caregiver (if not the vet) will have less worry placed on her.

I know a vet can palpate a bladder to feel if it is full or not, I wonder if they'd be able to feel any tumors?

Was the urine tested for crystals as well as infection?

Also, diarrhea, caused by the antibiotic, could casue some irritation and therefore bleeding.

(sorry my thought seem all messed up here. I hope they all make sense to you)

Thanks for the smile, Barbara. I hadn't thought of it in terms of Feng Shui. but you are so right!
