Tim and I used to go to the ones in Washington when we were dating. He had a converson vw bus we would park in the back row and open the back hatch and lay on the bedI was the worsed date I would always fall asleep. My girl friend would always just roll me on to the floor and let me sleep.
After the kids were born we would take them , but Ben was too young to remember it , so when we took him to see the lion king (about12 yrs ago) He was 9 he saw the line up and whated to know how we would find a seat ? He also got to bring his kat Winky (yes our old guy is quite the travler) we were staying in a tent looking for a house to rent. It was kind of cool as the lighting on the movie started we had a lightning storm going through the area (very really graphics)

All the movie theatres here have been shut down. Really too bad because I remember when they used to charge by the person so someone would always be hiding in the trunk. Then they switched to charge by the carload. I did go, but never watched the movie....
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I always liked them. I believe they have all been torn down
around here. Space has been overtaken by shopping malls. It
was a lot of fun to be able to take the whole family & have a
place for the kids to fall asleep while the adults still watched the
movies. They usually had cartoons first for the kids. One thing
I really had to watch out for was my habit of driving off with the
    speaker still attached.

I adore the drive-ins! Mike and I go once a month or so. For $12, we can both see three movies!! of course, that mans we're there until 3am, but that's ok.

The Drive in here was really nice. They had the system where you just turned your FM stereo to a cirtian station and it broadcasted in your car. They charged by the carload too, only $10.

It stinks though that it was torn down . I guess it wasn't popular, but when I went it was always packed.

I love going to the drive-in. We have two near us - both charge about $5/person, but both have a carload night which is only $5/car. Much cheaper than the theaters! We take chairs and sit outside, and you can bring whatever snacks you want.

We don't have any drive-ins here, and I think they never existed here... But it would be great to have one, cinemas are getting really expensive......

Fun thread!! I have not been to a drive-in for years but we do have one very close by. In my dating days - it was great fun Later on it was perfect to bring the babies and kids because they could play and sleep easily. We would also back in and raise the hatch on our Escort. Good ole days!! Now, I fall asleep pretty early so I doubt I could stay awake for the movie - and it always seems that mosquitos bother us...but it would be fun to go again - maybe when Missy and Tyler are here!

Like Alexa said in her post we love them. Last time we went we tossed some blankets and pillows in the back of my pick up and just lied down, it was nice and comfy. Maybe a little too comfy because we were falling asleep when the second movie started.
