I totally know what you mean! I've encountered many people like this...

These "excuses" that people come up with are so lame and I agree with you all that it makes my blood boil

I can't understand (nor will I ever) why some people get pets in the first place. They are a lifetime responsibility, like a child, and should be treated as such. If they can't commit, then they shouldn't get an animal. Now, I know that sometimes there are extreme circumstances, and that's a different story, but just plan irresponsible people I can't stand.

Here's a story about someone that really made me mad. This snotty woman pulls up to the shelter in her brand new (well maybe not brand new...but you know what I mean) BMW and drops of a cat that is practically spilling out of a cat trap. She requested the folks at the front desk to put the cat down because "he's peeing on my bedspread".
This POS woman, had this cat for more than 10 years, so he was elderly and VERY overweight. She didn't even seem to care that he was overweight, was having trouble breathing because of this, and most likely the reason for his peeing problem (oh, he was also declawed). She didn't even try to solve the problem. He started peeing, she dropped him off to be PTS. I just don't get it. Why don't people even make an effort to solve the problem, then making other people clean up their mess. I felt so sorry for this cat. He was so fat. He was an adorable grey tabby and he just let me rub his cheeck with a happy look on his face. You could tell he had not been given a lot of love from this snip in her BMW. I asked the people at the shelter if we would try to adopt him out, and they said that since she signed a form for her cat to be PTS, we couldn't do that. Plus, since he was elderly, nobody would probably adopt him anyway. It's so sad how people often comdemn their elderly pets to fates like this...

Here is another situation that pissed me off so much that I was just speechless. I was working up front at the shelter and this man walks in with this really unkempt chow mix dog. It was full of matts and dirty as all heck. He says: "I want to drop him off". I couldn't even handle this one without going off on the man, so the lady that always works up front (and is probably used to this kind of stupidity) asked him "is there anything wrong with the dog? Why don't you want him anymore". The man replied "i just don't want him anymore and no, there's nothing wrong with the dog". Then...get this...he proceeds to ask for the adoption fee back!!! Apparently he had adopted this dog from the shelter 5 years back and expected to get the money back! Can you believe THAT one?? I don't think so! Dumn A$$!

Yes Donna it is sad sometimes, I saw the most beautiful cat in our local free paper this week, he was simply stunning a long-haired semi torti is how I would describe him, and he was nine years old, I donot know his circumstances, but his owner had to give him up because of things beyond their control, I can only hope they were elderly and had to go into hospital or a home not allowing pets, and that was the only reasons darling Sam was given up, there were special adoption fees on him , I Think he will be snapped up as he was so lovely. I wanted him sooo....bad....

I never had cats when my children were young as I was allergic, still am, but just assumed I could never own a cat ever again, and my son was asthmatic, even though I longed for one, sometimes i think it was for the best, I don't know if i could have given 100 per cent to my pets as I do now , when the kids were little, they seemed to take up so much of my time, they would have been well-looked after, as i would never neglect an animal, but they probably would not have got so much attention as my two furbabies do now.

I could never give up my pet, in million years, I just could not live with myself if I did, infact when I get really old I may forgoe having a cat, as much as it will hurt me not to have one, unless I know my kids will take it if i die or go into a home or hospital , I think it would be selfish of me to do so. Just MHO.
    Furangels only lent.
