What has helped (some) with her is to teach her to give kisses. Then when she goes overboard you can tell her "no kisses". Sometimes she stops...other times, you have to push her away and tell her "no kisses" a few times, but she eventually gets the hint!!!
Yeah right! This is Amy's poor brother being attacked by Sadie.

I think Amy has it wrong. Snoopy is the lickingest dog around. He licks everyone and every dog. He cleans all the dogs ears and would lick you all day if you would allow it. He acts like his feelings are hurt but I just look him in the eye and say No more licking and he knows what I mean and will usually stop.

Dazzi licks occasionally but mostly on the arms for some reason.

dogs are compelled to snarl occasionally."

Oreo is also very licky! (Maybe it is a black lab thing ) Pushing her away made her even worse--she thought we were playing and licked more frantically! We figured out that she was being pushy trying to get our attention, and her training helped solve the problem a lot.

We taught her that sitting nicely was a good behavior that brought her attention and praise. Jumping and licking were behaviors that made us cross our arms, look away, and turn our backs (ignore her). She finally realized that she needed to sit to get what she wanted in the first place. So in effect, we replaced the licking with sitting. (Now, whenever she wants something really badly from us, she sits to ask "please!!!!")

Since Emerson's still a puppy, I'll bet he learns this in no time!

Cassius is a licker too, and he's some kind of mix of maybe sheltie, maybe keeshond, maybe elkhound (we're still trying to figure it out). If I tell him "no lickie" he'll give me an extremely wounded look and stop, and go lick someone else dog or human, it doesn't really matter to him.

For some reason none of mine are really lickers so I really don't have any suggestions.

Amy & Diana, I can testify that both Sadie & Spot are both lickers! I got quite a few kisses from them both on Sunday

Well, I'm very glad to know that Emmers isn't the only licker!

I'm going to try the "No Kisses" and ignoring him.

Thanks for the tips!! Emerson sends licky kisses to you all, and LOTS of them!!

I completely know what you all mean. Bailey is EXTREMELY licky. She will lick legs, feet, hands, and faces. She will lick almost every dog at the dog park...on the mouth. To the point the dogs will pretty much be spinning in circles to get away from her.

When she's at home, she really loves to lick my husband's head. I think it's adorable, he thinks it's gross, but yet he won't move from where he's sitting and she'll keep licking. Her longest licking session on his head is 10 minutes straight.

If she can't lick my husband's head, she'll settle for pinning Guinness down and cleaning his ears. Then she'll start licking the top of his head. The whole time he has this look on his face like "Eeeewwww. Mom, make her stop!"

The only thing that works is re-directing her attention. We tell her no and we direct her to a bone or ball to play with.
