Thread: How much $$ do you think you spend on cat food a month?

  1. #16
I probably spend only around $50 for my two, but I feed 5 or 6 outdoors too, so my cost is probably around $120 to $140.

My big expense is HAM. Connor and Ally each get some when I leave in the morning, and at bed-time. It costs me another $40 per month.

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!

I buy Techni-cal for my two and it costs $16.99 a bag. The bag usually last me a month and a half or a little longer. I also buy them whiskas pouch food. They share a pouch every morning so at $0.48 the total I spend each month is approximately $35.00.

A regular sized bag of Iams hairball treatment bag (sorry I don't know the lbs) is about $13 and one can ALMOST get us through the month, but we usually end up getting two so that's $26 plus they get Fancy Feast wet food twice a week and that is .78 cents a week plus treats, we go through about a bag a week and it's $1 a bag, so it's roughly $34 a month.

Since Ali is a diabetic she eats special food...Purina Canned DM (Diabetis Management). It's $22.82 for a case (24 cans). She gets 1 can per day (1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening).

Jack eats dry food...I think it's about $10.00 for a bag. A bag usually lasts about a month.

So if you do the math, it's about $28.50 per month for Ali's food, plus $10.00 for Jack's food...we spend about $40.00 per month on cat food.

Let's see......we probably spend at least $300 a month, if not more. Have never really averaged it out. We buy for our 17 at home and the 35-40 park cats.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors in cities, towns, and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes. Healthy adult cats too wild to be adopted are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of volunteers

Wow! That's a lot of money for food. But Kelly, don't forget to factor in the raw food for Micah as well! He still is on raw, right?

I guess Nakita isn't a really good comparison. I usually buy 2 different brands of dry cat food (2 x 5lbs) and I buy 4 x 5oz cans of wet food.

one 5 oz can of wet food lasts Nakita 5 days, and she eats 1/5 - 1/4 dry food a day. So the dry food last a long time!! And I buy the wet food once a month. I've never really measured how long the bag lasts, but it seems like it lasts almost forever.

I would say at the most $22 a month...but it could even be a little less. I will have to mark on the calendar when i start them on a bag and when i have to buy more...never really checked how much they go through in a month, just buy as i need it.
