The thing is, this is a HOUSE. A small, house. She bought it. Its hers. Still the rules..Why I don't understand why you can't have more then one pet? I wonder if the rules chance once she buys the land..
We have a house, and there's plenty of restrictions regarding pets just in this city. Legally we're only allowed to have 2 pets. And you are not supposed to let dogs off-leash either.

Really? We don't have any really..like for a normal place..unless your yard goes to crap and the grass is out of controll etc..I suppose you couldn't own like 50 dogs..not sure..lmao I don't really know anything do I? I'll be ok someday

Maybe you should call your city's animal control (or look at the website if there is one) and find out what the rules regarding pet ownership are.

I suppose I should. I know we're allowed 2 here atleast however so its all good..I honestly don't believe there are any rules here though to a degree depending on where you live

I asked lol..there isn't any rules for a normal place here..like where I live. There is like a city law to keep your outside area in an orderly fashion

Does this mean you won't beable to get your new kitten now?
I thought you already had more than one pet, or am I mistaken, some of the rules seem unfair, but I guess they have to try and please everyone.

Schleppy, is there any chance you mom is buying this on a land contract?

Carole: No, I'll still get it. Rules can't apply if you own the house, makes no sense. I believe you have to 'ask' them or something..So we'll see. Our neighbors have 2 dogs so there really is nothing they can do about it..

    catnip: wtf?

Just because the neighbors have two dogs doesn't mean there isn't anything they can do about it. If they find out and it really is against regulations, they'll just fine you both.

If somebody called animal control on me for having 3 dogs, sure I could name 10 other people with 3+ dogs and you know what they'd do? They'd fine me and also the 10 other people I named. Just because everyone breaks the rule doesn't mean it isn't against the law.

I guess I just don't understand what you are getting at by "if you OWN" the house....lots of people own houses. There are still rules applied even if you own something.

Of course I do think the 2 pet limit here is completely ridiculous...I don't think people should have tons of pets either, but 2 being the limit is so dumb.

Ok..lol what I MENT was, I'm going to ASK first so they can't fine me. Also, there are different rules for different areas. Those stupid rules apply to where my mom is moving, NOT where my dad lives (also where I live) there are no rules for my dads, you could own like 50 dogs and unless your mistreating them theres nothing they can do

You don't know how hard that concept is for most people to understand. You are totally right...someone else's violation doesn't excuse yours...

Just because you own something doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with it. I own a car but that doesn't mean I can drive down the road at 100mph in it just because it's my car. If your mom has a problem with the rules then she shouldn't buy the house. A signed contract is a signed contract.

This seems to be the reason right here. She hasn't bought it yet, still leasing, so if the house were to be wrecked by 100 dogs and she moved out the owner would have to fix it at his expence. As for fences, its a neighborhood rule I guess. Maybe 1 or 2 pet rule is neighborhood also. She can check out all the rules before she signs on the dotted line. Maybe she will want to keep looking for another house, that doesn't have so many rules. I'd always have to have a fence. But that rule is NOT uncommon at all. Is this a new house or older? Seems like new places have more rules.

Good luck to you guys, glad this all came out before you bought it..

The city right next to ours has a breed restriction agains Pits. Poor pups.
