Oh, I forgot to say that although I HATE getting my pupils dilated, I have that done about every two years. About three years ago I got my first "floater" and was completely horrified, but went to the doctor and was told "no big deal, nothing to be done" but he was impressed with the size of the thing! Thankfully it has broken up over time, and is now far less annoying.

I go for an exam December 31st this year.

Sorry to hear about the eye problem.... my dad has macular degeneration, so he goes to the eye docs all the time, and I know he hates it.

Good luck with the surgery, and hope you can find some cool eye patches!

    Hugs!!!!

OK weird but I experienced a "flasher" (not the kind in a raincoat) last night. At first it felt like I had looked directly at a lightbulb, then this flickering starting in the peripheral vision of my left eye. It was a lined pattern and I could see yellow and purple in it. It would have been kinda cool and psychedelic if it hadn't been so frightening! I was looking up the number of the "cybernurse" for my insurance company when it suddenly stopped. It felt as though I had something in my eye for a while, then . . . nothing.

Is THAT what you're going through? What the heck is it?

    Yikes!

Catherine, see your eye doctor ASAP. Any "flashes" are worrisome, can be a sign, from what I know, of retina detaching or other such serious problem, so you want to get it examined today!

    Thank you Karen

Just called my eye doc and he is, of course, out of town this week
Spoke to his nurse about it - she said that a one time incident does not have to be considered an emergency. Asked me a few questions - I used to have migranes but haven't in about 7 years, I took antihistamines due to a cold and overdid caffeine yesterday. She said it sounds like a reaction to that combination. I may go see him when he gets back next week, but if I have another, I'll definately go. It was very bizarre!

It could be an occular migraine. I've had some flashing episodes without any pain in the past but they didn't have any color like you experienced. My eye doctor said it was most likely an occular migraine. My dad used to also get these but then he'd get a bad headache later on. I hope that in your case that it's nothing serious.

Prayers on the way that things go well for you!

I know what its like to have eye issues and I agree it is scary. I have "glaucoma symptoms" but they aren't severe enough to cause too many problems or so my eye dr says. My eye pressure always runs high. (I have normal blood pressure, go figure) I can't see very well at night and I do have reduced peripheral vision in one eye. I get my pupils dialated every year and I HATE it lol. I noticed that this year it wasn't as bad...maybe they are using new stuff

Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and a restful couple of weeks. It is amazing what they can do now to help save a persons eyesight.
I am having laser surgery on the 12th once again for my glaucoma, this will be the third time.
I work for two eye Dr's so I understand your concerns and fears.
The retina specialist I am sure is highly trained and will do a great job for you.

Karen, I am sorry I didn't reply sooner! I'm kinda slow at these things now-a-days, I hope your procedure went well and hope everything got fixed up. Hospitals suck. Please update soon!
