I thought you might like an update even though he hasn't seen the specialist yet. Boof is having a bit of trouble eating, but it doesn't stop him trying. Last night my mum was panicing. She came to get me, she had fed boof a cherry from our christmas food, but didn't expect boof to eat the seed, which he did. It must have got stuck in his back molars, cause we could hear it crunching, but he couldn't get it out. mum had been giving him choc drops, he ate them, but the pip was still in there. i had the idea to give him grass, because the only foods that use the back molars to eat is hay and grass, for any other foods rabbits mainly use there front teeth. anyway, it worked, about 5 minutes later it came out, and i grabbed it quickly and threw it out. phew.. that was a scary christmas night.

Anywayz..... when we were having christmas dinner, we started looking for boof, and this is where we found him. so cute.

I think he wants to show us that he is the best present under the tree. lol.

OK this is the last update for about 2 weeks. I am going camping.

We took Boof to the rabbit specialist and she was great! She really knew her stuff. It took an hour to drive there, but it was worth it. Our usual vet said Boof looked fine to him, but if we thought he was acting strange to go to this lady. I am so glad we did.

Apparentely the supposed fat lump it actually an abscess!!! :O The lady said when rabbits have abscesses, the pus is so thick that nothing comes out when you try suck out anything with an injection. That is why the other vet thought it was a fat lump.

Even though the other vet checked Boof's ears, this lady did, and then shoved her finger down his left ear and pulled out a massive long hard cone of wax. poor little boof. it was about the size of birthday cake candles. It was from the abscess.

Apparentely the drooling and weird eating is because the abscess is pressing against his facial nerves and the left side of his tongue, eye and mouth are numb. The rabbit specialist said the abscess will hopefully go down. If it doesn't he might have to get it cut out. The feeling in the left side of boof's face may or may not come back. If it doesn't, he will have to get his teeth constantly filed down because he will mainly chew with the right side. So can you guys please pray for the feeling to come back.

The abscess has caused a middle ear infection and that is why he gets so dizzy and falls over when scratching or begging.

Anyway, boof has to talk an antibiotic (that smells like coconut) and an anti-inflammatory.

Also, the dry skin boof has between the shoulder blades that the other vet said was a skin condition is actually caused by some kind of mites in the hay. The other vet had given us quartazone for. This lady said never give rabbits quartazone as it lowers their immune system. She gave us revolution for him.

My mum also mentioned before gets diarrhea every now and then, and she said Boof was a little overweight, and gets too much pellets. She said pellets cause diarrhea in rabbits. we have to wean him off it and replace it with plain hay. Boof is not gonna like it, he loves the pellets.

We also bought a slicker brush for boof's fur because it gets a little matted near his butt. The vet said he needs to be brushed everyday, especially when he is shedding. We used to have a problem with the other brushes we used, but this slicker brush is great.

In summary, boof should start to perk up in about 3 days. We will have to deal with any complications after that. He is going back to the rabbit specialist in 2 weeks.

Thanks for your continued support. If you have a similar problem, and would like to know the names of the antibiotic and anti inflammatory, just message me.

Poor Boof has been through so much these past couple of weeks. Oh and Monica, Boof want to say hello to you and Benny. I told him that Benny was going through a tough time too. lol.

Well thank goodness you went to the specialist! Boof will be in our prayers for a quick recovery. Nasty abscess! Icky, icky! Hey, Miss Hoppy recommends fresh parsley in addition to the hay ... it is much yummier, and a healthy alternative to pellets.

Great news (I mean about getting this all cleared up). Hopefully you won't have many complications and Boof will be happy and playful once again.

    Dear Sarah,

How wonderful that you were able to take sweet Boof to such a informed and caring specilist. The news about the wax in his ears is so amazing. Poor Boof not able to say anything. I am glad Boof is on the mend and my prayers are with you sweet Boofy Boy for a full recovery. Benny too enjoys his pellets but he only gets about 1/8 of a cup a day. He has fresh hay in four different places in his room. Benny does not pee in his hay. He uses the litter box always. I go to the store and buy Benny fresh greens every other day. I am very fortunte that I have a wonderful store 5 minutes from my home that has fresh parsley, carrots with tops, dandilions, baby lettuce and many other bunny foods available year round. I know not everyone does.
Boof you look so cute under the tree, I just want to pick you up and kiss that sweet face several million times. Much love to you Boof, Benny & Monica

i dont know if you would want to kiss is face at the moment. lol. he is drooling and some of the infection is coming out of his nose. Anyway, Boof is going to the specialist again tomorrow, so we will find out how he is doing then. My mum pulled out a big clump of dried puss stuf from his ear today, hopefully it means the abcess is draining. What i am really worried about at the moment is his teeth. because he only chews on one side of his mouth now, his teeth are going weird. The front ones can be filed, but i have a feeling he may need the back teeth pulled out from that one side because to file the back teeth, you have to put the rabbit under, and doing that on a regular basis would be really dangerous, not to mention stressful for poor little boofy. Again, i just have to see what the vet says tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers.

i was just cleaning a bit of puss out of boof's ear about 5 minutes ago and my hand touched the abcess spot. More puss started coming out of his ear, so i pressed harder and got as much as i could out. now the big lump is gone!!! it is only tiny though, but i dont wanna push it too hard cause it might hurt him. i think the fact that his abcess just drained is a good thing. it has been there for over a year cause our other vet said it was just a fat lump. the stuff that came out was disgusting, and smelt really bad, but hopefully now boof will feel a bit better.

It'a good to hear from you and to know that Boof is so far ok. The abcess sounds so gross. I think about Boof every single day and send prayers and snuggles to Boofy Boy. Kisses to you Boof, Monica

Boof, sweety! I hope your ear feels better with some of the fluid drained. I'll kiss your face, despite the infection -- I'm a nurse. Feel better soon, dear bunny Boof.
