It would be one thing if it were a one-time recall instead of one that's been announced in bits and pieces extending (so far) over the course of nearly two months. But given that we've learned that Chinese producers have been adulterating food products with melamine for years, and given that pet food companies have admitted that at least one manufacturer has been adding suspect ingredients (allegedly) without their knowledge, I think that the burden has shifted to pet food producers to prove that their products are safe.

And as for trusting the FDA or any federal government agency to be proactive in protecting us, I have one word: "Katrina."
Thank you. I, too, rely upon these updates. In fact, my cat loving friends at work depend on me to pass it along. I don't trust the FDA either. After all, they were, until recently, only officially acknowledging 15 cat deaths. Or was it 16?
