When I read the title of the thread, I took a deep breath. I'm so sorry for your losses. I know how difficult it is to realize that a feral you've been caring for is no longer around.
I fed a feral cat named Shadow for over 5 years in a run down neighborhood in Hartford. His shelter was an abandoned building where a bunch of druggies did their thing. They never bothered me or the cat and actually thanked me for taking care of him.
I fed him on the way TO and FROM work. When I arrived, I'd always call out his name and could see him in the distance as he watched me fill his food and water dish. Well, one day I noticed his dish was still full. I called out for him and he was nowhere to be found. This cat had been living out in the "wild" for over 10 years which is a record for feral cats. I then realized that he was gone.I have a picture of him near his feeding area (taken from car) on my shelf to remind me of him. When I returned to CT for a visit, my bus passed by the lot where the abandoned building once stood. It's now a vacant lot.
RIP to all the ferals in the world!!!
