I concur, Richard, it's about amazing, dedicated atheletes from all over the world and politics should be left out of it, cause it sucks when someone uses the podium as a sounding board for their opinion. I clearly remember the incident you mentioned. I can't wait to see the Iraqui wrestling team do their thing with the freedom of knowing they won't be sent to the Saddam School of Torture for losing. Of course I always root for the home team, but regardless, when you excel, you excel.
K9karen, I'll be watching the olympics, but part of the time I'll be a "captive audience!" I'll be watching from a hospital bed!

    oh oh oh!!!

How will the flame be lit????

I was watching a replay of the Aussie Games opening and when Cathy Freeman lit the water around her I wondered just how she was going to get out of there!!!

And who can forget the Barcelona start???.....I held my breath when that arrow flew over the cauldron!!

Has anyone watched the opening ceremony? I think it was awesome!! Very modern and cool, but I also liked how Greece's history has been represented.

BTW, what I find especially funny is that my brother in law has been in Athens 4 years ago to help setting up the telephone network for the Olympic games. Kind of cool, I think.

Now I hope the games will be peaceful and fair!

Carole, I taped the opening ceremonies, but I haven't seen the Kiwis yet. They will be here shortly. As a Pittsburgh Kiwi, I'll be rooting them on! It will be tough if The U.S.A. and New Zealand go head-to-head in an event, though! LOL

Yes, I saw them! They looked great! They wore jackets with an olive branch all over them to greet the host country, that looked very nice (it's a Greek symbol).

    it was beautifully done.

I get so teary eyed watching the different countries walk
    down/holding their flag.

I missed the opening ceremonies too but I was just watching a bit of the gymnastics. Here's a guy from Canada who lives 15 minutes away from me giving it all he's got. It's really amazing. I think every athlete should be really proud just to be part of the games.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Thank you Kirsten, I guess it will be on again anyhow and I will eventually see them.

And David I would not expect your loyalty if it were the Kiwis and the Americans up against each other, I know who I will be backing GO KIWI, GO KIWI., now if it is a scot and a Kiwi, then I have a bit of difficulty, but I think I would still have to back the Kiwis, since they have been good enough to let me live here for over 46 years.
