I personally, am much more of a dog person then cat person. I feel less overwhelmed taking care of several dogs then several cats. Everyone is different. You are not a irresponsible pet owner. You found the kitten a good home. An irresponsible pet owner would have dumped it off at a kill shelter or the side of the road.
