I've been told that I have both a Northern and a Southern accent.
It's funny how local speakers hear an accent completely differently from outsiders, isn't it?

A lot of people from my father's side of the family emigrated to Canada. A lot of them, I have never met, but one of his aunts used to visit Scotland fairly regularly. To us she sounds Canadian, but she says that Canadians know that she isn't a native. They can hear a Scottish twang in there, even though she has been there for 80 years now!!
