Never mind, I won't get one. My mom just won't let me. Smitten has destroyed a lot of carpet and couches and all. She just won't allow it. I obviously don't deserve one.

Audrey, Don't think you're a bad person. If you have to get the cat declawed, then do it. Smitten doesn't seem to have any problems with it, does he?

Smittens never had any problems..

How old is Smitten? A lot of these problems aren't immidiate, but cats use their toes to walk on. By declawing them you are removing the toes, so after years of walking improperly cats start to develop back pain as well as other problems.

I know the process of declawing. I have seen the process MANY times. I've also seen 2 ways. One in which the 1st joint is removed. Another in which only the part that keeps the claw from growing back is removed, not the joint. I KNOW there is problems along with it sometimes, I have seen it. But only sometimes which is like anything. Smitten is 6 yrs old she was done a long time ago. My cats will not go outdoors at all as they'd have no means to protect themselves. I know that.

Anyway. Would a male kitten get a long with an older female? And vise versa?

Yes they would. Often people recommend that you get a kitten of the opposite sex. I had Corkscrew first then adopted a female kitten and they get along great.

Hmm..maybe I'll get a male then..Smitten got along good with Patches (female) but seemed annoyed by her sometimes..she always wanted to curl up with her or play. Smit doesn't seem to like affection a lot from ppl so maybe she needs it from a cat..

How about training the kitten to use the scratching post rather than the drastic measure of declawing. Scratching is a natural thing to cats. It's not fair to punish them for something that comes naturally to them by taking their claws away.

If you want a cat who's declawed, got the shelter and find one who already is!!

Great news to hear you are not going ahead with the declawing, my lexie is kinda destructive with her claws, but I Love her so much, I would rather have a few ruined material things, than hurt her in anyway.
