Olivia has been adopted!! I went to the shelter today and a woman came in and was holding her. Olivia licked her cheek and that was the end of that!!
I brought a very sickly 6 week old kitten home to foster. I named him Spike (I'll post pictures tomorrow). He's really not doing that well. He's small for his age (I thought he was about 4 weeks old), VERY thin and has really bad diarrhea.
I've been trying to pump Pepto Bismal and Pedialyte into him to get rid of the runs and keep him from becoming more dehydrated than he already is. My cats can't figure out where the squeaking sound is coming from. I've got him in a carrier with a heating pad on low, covered with a blanket.
My friend Kathy, who runs the nursery at the shelter said that she doesn't think he's gonna make it and to prepare myself. But I refuse to give up. His sister is also in the nursery but is alot bigger and plumper than he is and thriving. We tried putting him in with a nursing mother to see if he'd suckle and he won't. He does go for Iams kitten food mixed with formula. I just got through feeding him a few minutes ago. He took about a 1/4 cc of Pepto and a whole syringe full of Pedialyte. I supposed that's good news.
I'm a little optimistic at this point, although it's early. We have a total of 21 kittens just in the viewing area alone!! There are at least another 17 in the nursery. People keep dropping them off by the box full.Welcome to kitten season!!
