My collie Lassie was 14 when she had to be put down. I was an only child. We added her to our family when I was just 3 years old. I was the final vote for when it was "time". I grew up with her, she was my best friend and sister. I still mourn her at times and I am almost 41 now.

My first cat Smokey died at 14 of renal failure. My second cat Killer Sue died at 15 of intestinal cancer. My husbands first cat Farfel died at 18.
