Oops - I'm a little embarrassed now - those pictures are of the store-bought kitty shelf. The one I made is here:
Not too shabby though, and it doesn't attach to the top of the sill so it doesn't damage the wood. This one could hold plenty of weight since it rests on the dresser, not on the wall. The only downside is that I stapled the fabric on, so I'd have to re-staple it if I wanted to take it off and wash it. I spot clean it with a lint brush. If I had any sewing talent whatsoever, I'd make an elastic-edged cover that I could slip on or off. I think the next one I make will be the entire length of the window, so he can pace back and forth on it when the "visitor" kitties are under the window
