We have 2 of them now, and had 3 at one point! We've tried all the different kinds; the flat ones with a cushion, and the saggy, hammock-type ones. Kitty loves all of them, of course; he's always in the windows anyway, so now he can be comfy while he's staring at nothing outside.
I have a home-made one for the bedroom window where the shelf rests on the windowsill and there are 2 legs resting on the dresser. I made it out of a flat piece of wood, some foam rubber and fleece fabric, and pre-made furniture legs that I got at a hardware store. I know the hammock-style one we had to drill into the windowsill for, but the other one is held up by a long strip of velcro along the window track, and the homemade one is held in place by a chain and hook underneath the window sill where you can't see it. The one in the office is behind a set of draw drapes, so the drapes just have to bulge out around it when they're closed, like this:
I would definitely recommend getting at least one!
