Bless you for taking in Milo. That is a huge task before you. I'm sure Milo will come around.

Can the health dept do anything to prevent your coworker from owning any other dogs or even all pets? Perhaps a pet rock is more their speed?

Ever since I got bit by a Jack Russel pretty viciously last year, I don't really trust them, but I am so glad Milo is in good hands. He actually really looks like the one that place Milo LOL. He sounds like quite the challenge but I am so glad he had you rather than the only option of being put down. Shelters would have never worked with him. I think MOST dogs do deserve a second chance...especially one that lived in nothing but a hell hole. Is he now considered a "dangerous dog"?

I really hope he improves, and I think he will. Look forward to hearing more about little Milo.

I feel as thought JRT are a breed that can either be REALLY good or REALLY bad for a family. Seems like they need the right type of owner to not be out of control and dominant.

The Health Department said Milo is in 0 trouble. I think everyone admitted what the child had been doing to the dog, but most likely sugar coated it a bit. So he is not labeled as one.

However I personally will handle him as such. He must be muzzled at all times when out in public (after his quarantine of course), but I'll only allow that with his soft muzzle & once I feel he really isn't a threat to anyone 75% of the time. The muzzle will be for people or children I do not spot in time that run up to him, or if I drop the leash, etc.

I personally cannot ever trust a dog like him in public. I have seen what he can do, and I know he was mistreated for so darn long. Its honestly not fair to the public nor himself.

I do plan to take him to the dog park to help socialize him in the warmer months, WITH the permission of everyone already in the park. I did the same when I first got Charlie (minus the muzzle), as I didn't know him well enough. Everyone was fine & he was a pretty good dog, just too excited & hyper.

We are glad the Health Department understands the truth of the situation, you and he are lucky in that regard. And I do think caution is the wise way to go, considering how long he was subjected to that awful treatment!

I understand completely of why you wouldn't trust him without it! That's what muzzles are made for. And of course, there's always the one kid with the one parent that doesn't watch the kid, and then you end up with a dog bite on YOUR plate and a lawsuit because the idiot parents can't control their kids.

That poor dog. No telling what he's been through in his life. I'm so glad you have him now. My Rose has trouble relaxing fully at times, too. Things like opening cabinet doors or refridgerator door makes her back up. Sounds like Milo is going to do great with you. Wonderful that he's made such progress already.

With progress, there is always a step back.

Milo just tried to bite me. I refused to back off as he is no longer the boss of anything. I just kept trying to repeat the same action until he pretty much gave up.

Who knew it could take 10 mins to get 1 bootie back on

He is wearing booties on his front paws as he clawed his face all up today while trying to get his muzzle off. Then when I put him in the XL kennel for muzzle free time, he licked his paws raw! His little toes were so swollen

His ear seemed to be too red & his face was a little puffy. I gave him some benadrl to see if it would help. His ear, face, and paws are looking much nicer. His paws are so soft from all the licking.

I need to get him some winter boots, as it must be the snow thats causing it. There is no salt of any kind on my walkway or front yard (where the pups potty). I'm soooo not prepared for another dog, blarg!
