Hey Barkeep! I'll join in on the Dim Sum, and boy do I have a contribution for the party! I have 20 litres of Gekkeikan Sake in the wine room to share (if anyone wants to hear THAT story, let me know) - help yourselves!

    Do tell, Maggie!

My deceased FIL was an Army lifer and spent several tours of duty in the Orient. He developed a taste for sake, as well as live-in Geisha girls - his housekeepers as he would tell it to his wife and kids back in the States. He always brought home a supply of sake, and insist everyone at least have a taste. I did - and YUK!!!

OK - just because you asked! My company is a plastics manufacturer and one of the products we make (Cubitainer - google it, you'll see) is used in Japanese Steak Houses (like BeniHana) for the hot Sake dispensers. If you're ever in one, just look behind the bar and you'll see the machine with a brightly colored box (20 litres) on top. That box holds a container of Sake, which is put through the heater below into pitchers for service. These containers have to be shipped full for DOT testing on occasion, so we get a full pallet of full 20 litre Cubitainers of Sake. I was one of the lucky employees to procure one last time.

My husband and I ride to work together, and I pick him up in the evening; that day, he looked in back and said 'what's that?' - I replied, '20 litres of Sake'....very matter of factly... He looked at me as if I'd lost my mind and asked 'WHAT are we going to do with 20 LITRES OF SAKE??'...

Well, drink it, of course. Silly man..

And how many years has it been since you hauled those 20 liters home in your car????
