I am shocked...absolutely SHOCKED..a news organization belonging to Rupert Murdoch engaged in deplorable, disgusting behavior?!?!?!?

    Murdoch

Now we know what he values in his news organizations...if it might cost him money - shut it down...if it only hurts or destroys people - keep it going...we all must have our priorities after all!

Um, did you follow the story at all? Folks at the paper he is shutting down went far beyond the tactics of most of the normal muckraking media outlets. They not only hacked into people's phones, repeatedly, regardless of the consequences, they even did so in the case of a missing child, and deleted messages on her cell phone, making her poor parents - and the investigators - believe she was alive somewhere and accessing her phone, when instead she has been murdered already.

Question. The NEA just met here in Chicago and announced that they're endorsing Obama for President in 2012. There are Republicans who are still entering the race, but the NEA has already endorsed Obama versus an unknown opponent. Are they saying that they believe Obama would be better than any possible Republican candidate? What if the Republicans identify someone who can out-Obama Obama? On the other hand it seems like labor unions go toward Democratic candidates in general. I'm not happy with everything Obama has done, but he's got problems everywhere he looks. The economy? Problems. Gang violence and drugs? Big problems. Iraq and Afghanistan and terrorism? Even bigger problems. Joblessness? Problems. Health care? Long-term problems as Medicare runs out of money and Boomers and Gen X'ers like me get older. But he's only a little more than halfway through his first term and big change takes time. I would not want to be President even for a minute, no way, no how.

Excuse me for being dumb, but can someone explain to me just what in the world the debt ceiling is? I'd never heard of it until this year.

How does raising it help us? Is it the amount we can borrow or the amount other countries will loan us or what?
No matter what anyone does, someone some where will be offended some how!!!!

You are not dumb. I don't think many people outside of Washington DC know
or understand what the debt ceiling is (including me).

    This explains it a bit.

It's the amount of money that the Government is allowed to borrow this
year or any year. The debt limit is set by Congress & can be raised by them.

Yeah.....we must welcome her to the world beyond her street.
Actually, I did read the article, and even tho I never got to the shocked stage, I did reach the flabbergasted stage. As for a reaction to the OP's shockedness....well no....I never felt a thing.
Did you know that Rupert is an Aussie ??? Perhaps that's why the OP was so shocked.

Yup. No margarita's or egg rolls where Rupert comes from.
    He's just an Aussie boy

When all of the advertisers pulled their ads, then & only then did he
get it. I hope he loses tons more money from all the lawsuits to come
    from this.
