Mozilla Thunderbird is a easy to use and friendly email client.

The big caveat is that it is very difficult to migrate away from Thunderbird if you ever want to. So be sure to check that box "leave a copy on the server" if you use it.

I used Opera's browser years ago, it also has e-mail. Check it out!

Thanks for that nugget of information. I use the Firefox brower and as Thunderbird seems to be a good companion for it I might just go with that. The reviews I read were pretty positive too.

X2 for Thunderbird. Another caveat is to make sure it does not set up as an IMAP account if your ISP supports POP accounts.

I didn't go for Thunderbird after all because I had some trouble installing, went for this one instead http://www.emclient.com/?lang=en. It's working fine, so far.
