Baby Kitty is a lot smarter than I thought. The little bugger is not having
any part of the food in the trap, she was very interested in the smell at first
but not taking the bait at all. She knows that something is up for sure.

I think this will take a little more time than I thought, but I'm certain it's
for her best interest that she come inside so I'm not giving up on her.

I know this sounds cruel, but it works. Don't feed her for 24-48 hours. Then put a slice shaped paper plate in the very back with smelly sardines. If she's hungry enough, she'll go in. But you already KNOW that!!!

I commend you for trying to get this little girl in before it gets really bad out.

Thanks Donna, I had forgotten about using Sardines. Nice & smelly.

I did try using them but they didn't work this time. You are probably right
about denying food altogether to make her desperate for the bait, but after
my latest fiasco, I have put away the trap. I'm going to wait till the weather
warms a little or until Spring to try again.

The garage door lock froze & I had to spray de-icer to get my key into it.
Then the key froze inside the lock & I couldn't get it out. More spraying
and waiting around in a snow blizzard with 40 mph wind gusts has worn me
out. BK doesn't go outside at all & I can't say I blame her a bit. She has
plenty of food, fresh water every day & a warm cat bed out of the weather
so she'll be ok for now.

She does act more friendly now that I've put away the trap. I really hate
to see her act scared (of the trap) after she had come to far trusting me
up till now. She is such a sweet little thing, I gave her some tin foil balls to
play with & she loves them.

Liz, I've adopted a couple of ferals in the past and those handled the indoors just fine but it took a while. There were pee issues, however.

Right now I'm trying to make sure that yet another holiday kitty is safe and well fed. I have a shelter w/a wind barrier set up and s/he goes in but won't eat the food I put out, even though it's smelly and I nuke it to entice him/her. Either s/he's eating elsewhere or s/he doesn't like what I'm serving. I hate the thought of him/her out there in this awful winter weather but s/he bolts like a bat outa hell when s/he sees or hears me. If s/he's not eating, it's doubtful I can entice him/her into a trap.

We just do the best we can and hope for the best. Thank you for caring enough to try.
    Blessings,
    Mary

    God bless you again, Mary.

Liz- is your garage connected to your house? If so, this might not be a huge issue, but if not...if it is a stand alone, you might want to make sure she has proper bedding. If you already know all this, please ignore. Kitty should have a 4 inch thick layer of straw...not paper/blankets/etc., but straw, and it should sit off the floor...maybe with a pallet, or something, so that it isn't sitting on the concrete. Then, you can line the bed with something, but she will really appreciate the straw. If you can build up the sides, even a large cardboard box (as long as it cannot absorb moisture from somewhere), it helps her feel cozy. Since you plan to ultimately bring her inside, why not experiment with a litterbox out there? Use CAT ATTRACT, probably double the dose suggested, and scoop it every day or so. You might be surprised at how quickly she takes to it.

My garage is de-tached, but Bk has a nice cat bed that I bought about
2 yrs ago. I had two, one for Momma & one for Baby Kitty. The bed is a
nice one with high rolled sides. I also put a fluffed fleece blanket inside it
to she can snuggle down comfortably inside. Her bed sits on a wooden table
so it's up off the concrete. Both cats also had & used litter boxes. They both
have used them for years. I scoop once a day also. She has everything the
inside cats have except warmth & company. I plan on changing that.

Today I drove to the drop box at the post office to mail some bills ( a five
minute drive) Me & the pups drove around the shopping center for 1/2 hour
to warm up the car before we came home. BK likes to sit on the car hood
when I drive back in. She sat there smiling at me for a long time. I know
she appreciates the heat & I'm sure she will get along with the inside boys
    once she joins them.

This is the 2nd day of no regular feedings & baiting the trap with tuna or
sardines. I'm hoping that tonight is the night.

YES She is inside and safely setted in a spare room.

Baby was really scared and loud when I brought her inside but did settle down after I talked to her for awhile. Her little eyes are so big as she takes
in all the newness of being in a house for the first time.

The other kitties know that someone new is here, but I haven't let them
    meet her yet.
