    Richard, I guessed the "toss the papers on the floor" one just because it was so ridiculous. I still don't belive it though. I have been in Spanish cafes and I am sure I would have remembered if folks had been chucking their rubbish on the floor.

    The ones I got wrong were the "flip the fish" and the Scottish one.

    I've been in places in the south with bins of peanuts as something to munch on while you wait. In some places you toss the shells on the floor, in other places you'll get a backhand from the waitress for doing the same thing.

    In other words, probably a situationally dependent issue.

    They do the same here in Lone Star Steak House and Texas Roadhouse. They encourage you to do it!
