I hope at least this phase, the opening of the storage unit, is less painful than going to the lake house, insofar as contents go anyway.....so very sad.....

Thanks to PCB!
Get a police officer to either go with you or meet you there. Not an off duty one. It's their job. Make sure someone else is with you as well. I know of several women who had the police meet them at their former residences whent they went to pick up their stuff, even if their former spouse was not supposed to be there. In a couple of cases, the person WAS still there and the police got them to vacate the premises. Call ahead of time and set something up. Get a friend or two to go with you each time you go. If you were here in Florida I would meet you there! Don't let him play games with you and don't think that he won't do something stupid or dangerous.
My former husband is considered a "mild mannered, likable man" by most people that know him, but when we were breaking up I made the mistake of getting in the car with him. He began driving recklessly and dangerously to frighten me saying that he didn't care if he lived or died. Thankfully we were close to our destination so I jumped out at the next light and walked the rest of the way. Be careful.

Gayle - what does he hope to accomplish by being an ass about everything? Does he think you'll back down and play dead? Why would he even want your things - other than to say he can do what he pleases and is more powerful than you. Is it an ego and power trip for him??? I just don't "get" guys like this!If he wants to be rid of you so damn bad, you'd think he would want you to get your things and get out of his life. Sounds like he still wants you under his thumb and to control you. Geeze.........

Now is the only time you have, so live it with a will -
Don't wait until tomorrow - the hands may then be still.

so sorry you are going through this. Hopefully your stuff is ok but if your ex is anything like mine then it could be wishful thinking.

So my friend Anne and I went and found the place. Tried the code I was provided, no luck. Will call tomorrow and find out what the heck!! Anne is unavailable tomorrow as its her bday, so unless I can find someone else (unlikely) I will go again on Friday with Anne when she is available. So more waiting.
