Sending healing vibes to your friend...
I´m with Karen on this issue.. I just burn in the sun.. and it hurts.. so I avoid it
although I wonder about tanning salons.. are they safe?..

No. They are no safer than exposure to the sun, despite their marketing claims. A "tan" is, technically speaking, skin damage, and any dermatologist would confirm that.
I don't know about the safety of whatever chemicals are used in spray tans - that's different, but I do not know if that has issues of its own!
I've Been Frosted
I tan nicely...only on my arms. in other places I am white as a sheet and burn burn burn! I wasn't careful one summer and I was miserable for weeks due to a huge burn on my back. People wonder why I never wear anything more revealing than a t-shirt in the summer lol.
My dad has already had to have some spots removed and he uses sunblock regularly. I take that as a hint to not push my luck.
I hope your friend will recover! Such a scary thing to happen to someone so young.
Erin is having her surgery today. PT please send some good vibes her way, she is such a lovely young women. I will let everyone know as soon as I can. Thank you everyone.
Fingers crossed here.

I
I definitely think young people who tan should take skin cancer more seriously. My dad just recently got skin cancer from years of being outside on the farm, and although it's not the most life threatening skin cancers, it could easily become melanoma.
If you want to look tan, you can get spray tans. I'm guilty of not wearing sun screen all the time in the sun, since I don't burn easily, but since this happened to my dad I'm going to.
Great to hear your friends cancer didn't spread, I hope she will be completely cancer free soon.
