    Beautiful Fur Friend

What a beautiful cat you have. May you have lots of wonderful years with your Romeo.

Personally, I would worry about leaving my kitties outside when I am not at home, but please remember, it is a choice that each cat guardian makes.

Some people believe letting a cat experience the outdoors makes the cat's life a happier life. I believe it depends greatly on the cat.

Some have street smarts and some don't.

    Street smarts don't mean anything

I try to appreciate what everyone rights and respect it - but the number of cats that end up on lost and found websites, the number of calls we get to go pick up a cat lying dead on the street after being hit by a car, the number of calls we get from people who have lost their cat, etc. - these include cats with street smarts. A speeding car (and as we know, no one respects the speed limits anymore) and a cat crossing the street - the cat never wins. It is heartbreaking when I see this each and every time. A cat doesn't have the knowledge of what dangers it faces outside. A number of cats were poisoned in the Montreal area by people's neighbors who put poisoned meat in their garbage knowing what would happen. Also there were some sickos driving around a Montreal area at night time taking people's cats for unkind purposes (animal testing, animal abuse). As I said, we would never think of opening the door and letting our dog out to fend for itself on the streets, in backyards, etc. while we go off to work - why is it considered acceptable for cats? And I know for a fact that our local animal catchers have no conscience about trapping and grabbing a cat, whether it belongs to someone or not - and don't think the tag on your cat's collar makes much of a difference. Take it from someone in the know and if you love them, you will keep them safe inside.
Please have your pets sterilized as soon as possible to lower, and one day hopefully eliminate, unwanted and abandoned pets. It IS our responsibility. Adopting from a shelter also helps - encouraging breeders just adds to the overpopulation.

Romeo, you really are a dramatically handsome boy! What delightful photos! We so enjoyed seeing you and reading your bio. We too have concerns about cats being outside, so hope you are in a well protected area. Congratulations, sweet Romeo - your are a marvelous Cat of the Day!

You look like you are waiting for your dear Juliet to sit in the balcony.
