That is sad. It seems parents are becoming less and less interested in their own children. It isn't just men Richard. There are plenty of bad moms out there too.

DO NOT BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE!!
This reminds me of a corporate dinner that I attended and I was sitting across from a man who loudly proclaimed that his son was a disappointment to him and that it's ok b/c he was sure that he was a disappointment to his son, too. I said "Why? He's a good kid! He's an honor student, a champion swimmer, doesn't get into trouble, etc...." and he said "He got older. We like babies".
Blessings,
Mary

Hey, that sounds like people and dogs
And believe me at my job I see it all the time. Why just the other day a woman ordered 2 alcholic drinks for her two young kids and sat them in front of her (I KNOW she ordered them for the kids because I heard her say "I ordered this for you" as I walked away!). The boy couldn't have been more than 6 and the girl maybe 15I just don't understand why people have kids...oh yeah because they choose not to use protection

Remembering all the Rainbow Bridge Pets
I rarely do this, but. I wish people could learn to use those large brains we were either endowed with or evolved.

"Not my circus, not my monkeys!"-Polish proverb
When we had the discussion of children my soon to be ex would say that he already had 2 more kids than he could stand. And he would proclaim this in front of his kids quite often, you could see the hurt register in the little kid faces.
So I have no kids and now that would seem to be a blessing.

But you know, there are two sides to this discussion.
Most of everyone here are probably in their 30's, 40's, 50's...and me....I'm 61.
When I grew up things were very different. Mums stayed at home and looked after the kids, we went for bike rides, built billy carts, caught and tortured tadpoles....stuff like that. And I believe it has shaped the way we are, the way we think, and our expectations of what is correct or incorrect in raising children based on our own upbringings.
What happens these days ???? Most mothers work....either to pay off that mortgage of their dream home, or just as common....they have to work because they are divorced (divorce didn't happen when we were young as much as nowadays). So what happens to the kids ????
Instead of going for a bike ride, they sit in their room with a playstation because mum and dad are too busy making ends meet, or mum is at the bar trying to find a suitable partner. The kids are not allowed out for their bike ride because of the ever increasing dangers within current society.
School holidays come along, and off they go to childcare centres or nannies or whatever....or if they are older, they are left to fend for themselves.
The children of today are VERY different from the children of our day, and naturally they view the world VERY differently than we did.
I'm not saying that Richards view of that idiot in the supermarket is wrong, what I am saying is .....just maybe the supermarket guy is partly right.
Maybe he has had the experience of other children that may be siblings of the baby he was holding, and has had trouble with them....well.....not trouble, but differences. Maybe he sees the kids next door running around the neighbourhood placing cherry bombs in everyones letterbox because there is simply no one there to guide them. Perhaps his expectations of how children should be, may be based on what his own childhood experiences were.
I know of parents that are almost faultless in raising their children, but their children have turned into real AH's (sorry Karen), so just maybe proper parenting isn't the issue here.....we all try our best in raising kids, I guess I have been lucky because I have three wonderful and very highly educated daughters......some people I know who are like me have children that are exactly the opposite. Being a good parent does not necessarily ensure that you have a good child....it helps.....but it doesn't always work out that way.
I wonder what differences the future holds. When we have all passed on.
How will children be raised then ???? I would think a lot different than nowadays, as much difference as it is now to our own younger days.
The world is changing folks, it always has, and it always will.
That's my thoughts anyway, for what it's worth........and I quote Smokey, we evolve !!!!!
