This is not always true. Bears are becoming a danger in many areas of Alaska and I can only guess in other states. Anchorage and surrounding areas have growing bear populations due to hunting restrictions in cities and municipalities. In the Bush, bears are getting closer to villages partially because of growing wolf populations.

During moose season bears can get very bold, especially the grizleys.
