You keep saying this... I can only assume by doing so you think that I and people like me don't care about these people? Or that the only way to help them is YOUR way...
There are so many ways for the less than fortunate to get help. I've spoken here before about many non-governmental organizations that do more, with half the budget of government agencies... Another local one, Water Street Rescue Mission. They feed, clothe, house and educate a great many homeless people. Yet, they are rarely fully utilized. Why? Because all they ask in return for using their facility and services is attendance at a HALF HOUR, non-denominational worship service, once a week.
Just because some of us don't want to do it YOUR way, does not make us uncaring or uncompassionate.

I have never used that quote on PetTalk before. If you have something on your conscious - please do not put it off on me.
I do not make assumptions about the "hidden meaning" of your posts. I would appreciate the same courtesy.

I also find it interesting that at the town hall meeting w/Lee, the audience was relatively quiet and respectful while the woman was asking her question. Lee chose to ignore her. Perhaps people feel that they need to shout to be heard. I'm not condoning it but I do understand it.

Talking about birth certificates and waving yours around in a baggie does not seem to me to be...well... constructive! The woman in the clip was called upon by the speaker. It was after that she became... it appears crazed.
My conscience is clear, has been for a quite some time. Now I know what you are going to say, but I know that you have said that before, more than once. Funny I can't find it now. Oh well....
Be that as it may... Perhaps you might answer my query? If you did not say..
...to imply people like me (those who oppose THIS PARTICULAR HCR bill) don't care about those less fortunate.... What did you mean? You have said that my assumption was wrong. So I am going to do what you ask and give you the courtesy of not assuming what I think it means. So can you please clarify what you meant by that?"As you are to the least of my people, so shall you be unto me" apparently is not part of the credo of many in this country.

I daresay that it's because I care about others that I don't like this particular HCR bill or, as it's now apparently called, the insurance reform bill. I need not agree w/the bill or w/any one person in particular nor am I required to take someone's litmus test in order to be deemed compassionate.

Mary

There you go again -- telling me what I have written. You can't find it because...I never wrote it before. Are you calling me a liar? In any event it is a bibical quote - not usually considered offensive or needing clarification.
And you are reading too much into what I said. Here is what I wrote...
Where does that say anything about "people like you" an offensive phrase I would not use anyway? Where does it say anything about "you people" who oppose universal healthcare?Isn't it so sad, CM? "As you are to the least of my people, so shall you be unto me" apparently is not part of the credo of many in this country.
If you think it is about you...that is not my problem.
It means exactly what it says.
ANOTHER example of Barack Obama, being just another politician.
From the... Huffington Post of all places...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_258285.htmlA memo obtained by the Huffington Post confirms that the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby secretly agreed to precisely the sort of wide-ranging deal that both parties have been denying over the past week.
The memo, which according to a knowledgeable health care lobbyist was prepared by a person directly involved in the negotiations, lists exactly what the White House gave up, and what it got in return.
It says the White House agreed to oppose any congressional efforts to use the government's leverage to bargain for lower drug prices or import drugs from Canada -- and also agreed not to pursue Medicare rebates or shift some drugs from Medicare Part B to Medicare Part D, which would cost Big Pharma billions in reduced reimbursements......
