It is, and I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. It's something we all know we have to face someday, but we all hope that someday never really comes.

Another sign to watch for.....usually cats with kidney failure end up with high blood pressure, which can eventually make them go blind. I think this is what happened to Peanut because she never had cataracts or anything like that. It was jus tall of a sudden one day she couldn't see. That, and how it changed her behavior, was the deciding factor for us in her case. Her quality of life was fine before that - she was still enjoying herself - but after she went blind she would just sit, seemingly afraid to move.

Glad to hear Max has perked up. Doesn't matter if it's the weather or the fluids or the food or why ever. The point is he has perked up and enjoying life as usual, which makes it all worth it. Give him extra gentle hugs for me tonight, and more {{{hugs}}} sent to you.

Debbie: Many thanks for that info. I'd forgotten about that. (((hugs)))

Last night's treatment was not good. The minute my neighbour enters the door, he runs and hides. He didn't fight that much but my poor boy...as soon as I put him on the counter, he started drooling profusely. Then as the flow started, he pooped right on the spot.

This is stressing him out so much so that I'm thinking of not continuing. Does that make my a bad meowmie????
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I think you are a wonderful meowmie. I think there comes a time when we need to look closely at the quality of life.

Not even a little bit. My Pidge is supposed to be only daily subQ's but she gets diarrhea each time and the stress for her is awful. She refuses to sit down and to administer the treatment while she's standing and constantly trying to jump down is beyond difficult. She's 21 years old w/cardiomyopathy and I have to shove meds down her throat every day in addition to the subQ's. She's had it. She doesn't want to be bothered at all so unless I see that she becomes severely dehydrated, I've discontinued the subQ's. It's been several weeks since she's had one and she's holding her own. As Grace said, quality of life has to be considered. (((HUGS)))
    Blessings,

Slick, this is the real hard part now. And Grace summed it up, the quality of life is what matters. " I cannot make you better, you are not going to get better, but I PROMISE you no pain, a good quality of life, and maintaining your dignity." And I have never regretted those words that I spoke to Boo. I know that I did the very best for her, and for all the Clan Angels.

Slick you are a GOOD meowmie. Is there an option that you can take him to a vet for fluids. We do that with Filou as you know and it separates the bad fluids for him from normal life. Wishing you all the best for whatever decision you take.
