Pittsburgh sure redeemed themselves last night! I'm glad it's going the distance. Whoever wins will have earned it (still rooting for Mario's team, though.)

And it all comes down to one game. I am going to be sad when it's all over, it's been a lot of fun to watch. Of course, I will be able to breathe again.. Both teams have worked so hard and they both deserve the Cup IMO. I think it will be a close game on friday. Other than that, I'm not even going to try to make any predictions, anything can happen at this point!

In one of those strange bits of scheduling karma . . . . . While Pittsburgh is playing in Detroit tonight, Detroit is playing in Pittsburgh tonight.

In their wildest dreams, do you think MLB thought that the Tigers and Pirates would be playing on the same Friday night in June that the Penguins and Wings would also be playing?

That's certainly an odd quirk of interleague play in sync with the Stanley Cup final!

That's a riot! Will the same city take both games? Will the home team take each game?

    Go Wings, go Tigers!

Oy Vey.... Osgood was WAY off his angle on that 2nd goal.

My prediction is wrong already, and I am OK with that. LOL

Red Wings! SALUTE! One HECK of a hockey game.

Penguins... Made me sweat. I HATE it when teams sit on a lead in a big game. LOL

Fleury... The SICKEST save of your career in the last seconds. Just freaking incredible.

    Woot!

The best part was the F-Bomb!

As long as series was exciting!

An inch lower on the Wing's shot?

THey'd still be playing. Did someone just drop another?

Now THIS is a hockey player

Why Lidstrom missed that game against Chicago - from the Freep -

Lidstrom admits having surgery during playoffs; Datsyuk quiet about injury

    By HELENE ST. JAMES
    FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

While teammates played Game 4 against Chicago, Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was undergoing surgery after getting speared in the testicles by Patrick Sharp in Game 3.

"I thought it was OK that Saturday when I practiced," Lidstrom said, "but Sunday, Sunday I was just in too much pain. I had surgery during that game."

Lidstrom said he would need more tests, but more surgery probably would not be needed. He said it was the most painful injury he has had.

Pavel Datsyuk was less willing to discuss the injury that sidelined him for seven games from Game 3 against Chicago to Game 5 against Pittsburgh. There may have been more than one injury, but he did suffer a foot injury after blocking a shot in the same spot twice.

In Datsyuk's view, it no longer matters.

"Too late about injuries," he said, "now, especially. My body doesn't feel anything now. My body just feels empty now."

That sure was an exciting game. I am just a little excited The last 6 seconds about killed me though. So great to see Mario hoisting the Cup again, only this time in his suit. I was a little disappointed to hear the fans booing when the Pens were awarded the Cup though. But, hey, it was a great night. Pittsburgh is now the first city to win a superbowl and stanley cup in the same year.

    Maybe he's just bad luck

I did read an article this morning, he admitted that the pressure was too much for him.

A goaltenders protection device for that "area" is a big honking armored kind of thing. I still wince and it hurts when I take a puck there. I cannot imagine getting speared in the goodies, having nothing but a regular cup on.

We all know Nick Lidstrom is a first ballot hall of famer. But THAT quote needs to be in bronze, somewhere in his space there. LOL
