Like Brittany Spear's little sister? That seemed quite newsworthy.

I don't think it is the "act" as yes, it sadly happens all the time.

    It is the hipocracy.

I'm not sure I get your meaning. What is it that she did that appears to be hypocritical? Was she campaigning for abstinence? If so, I totally missed that. I didn't think Britney Spear's sister's pregnancy was newsworthy either.

I don't know about ms Spears but I'd say Bristol's preganancy was pretty hypocritcal. Pretty sure Sarah P was pushing to teach "abstinance only" in schools.

Not trying to generalize but a lot of teenagers are more sexual than their parents realize. If your daughers are pure in mind and body, then I praise your parenting skills. Sadly a lot of parents these days are too busy to pay attention to what their kids are doing. And some just don't care. I had a friend who told her daughter "just let me know when you're gonna start doing that" and then put her daughter on birth control pills when she did.

Then I guess I'm fortunate that my son and DIL don't fit into this class.
I have a beautiful 16 yr old granddaughter who isn't even interested in dating (and yes - she likes boys)! She is taking college courses in h.s., and is more concerned with what college she wants to go to, and how she can earn enough money for her senior trip to Europe. She is popular and has tons of friends and activities to keep her busy, and only occasionally goes out with a group of guys and girls together. She has never been on what I would call a "date" - one guy and one girl only. She's got her whole life ahead of her for a relationship - and right now she's having too much fun to be involved with anyone. And all her friends she hangs out with are the same way. Too bad more kids wouldn't think that way!

She sounds like my 16 year old. I bet they are not the only young ladies that are focused and not sexually active.

I can't really take credit my daughter who is almost 18 is boy crazy

ES I assumed when you said hypocritical you were referring to folks on this board going crazy over brittany spears sister and then saying we should leave palin alone.

CM...I would never accuse anyone on this board of being hypocritical...

I too know some teenage girls who are too scared, too shy, too focused... things that keep them from being sexual active. I don't think ALL is an appropriate word when talking about most groups of people.

She's still just a kid yet. I don't recall SP's stance on abstinence but just because someone advocates something doesn't mean that everyone is going to follow it, her daughter included. Bristol is a teenager who wasn't thinking of her mom and the possible repercussions that a pregnancy could cause. She was caught up in the moment w/her boyfriend. It may be an embarrassment for them but to judge an 18 year old in this way is harsh. It isn't a drug scandal, it isn't something for which she tried to get front page attention. She's a young girl who thought she was in love and her emotions got the better of her. Now she has to face single motherhood which is tough enough w/out all the finger pointing. I think it's because so many people don't like SP that they're judging her daughter so harshly. I wonder if the reaction would have been the same had it been Chelsea Clinton who was pregnant out of wedlock. I wouldn't have cared either way. Their sex lives are their business and their responsibility.

I wasn't trying to judge Bristol or Sarah P, was just trying to clarify why some would call the whole ordeal "hypocritical". Not sure how bad of a problem teenage pregnancy is anywhere else, but it's pretty prominent here in Memphis. It's even legal for you to abandon unwanted babies at hospitals or fire stations (maybe like that everywhere?)

I love threads like this and the different opinions that come out.

    Oh, the humanity!

An 18 y.o. breaks it off with her BF and she ends up with a kid to remember him by!

BFD-she and the kid will be well taken care of! None of us have to support either one. I am sure Mom Palin has plenty of resources to deal with her. As far as the ethical questions?

Start talking and berating the rest of the teens that have the same problems, then go after the parents.

    --------

I hope this put things into perspective and we see that not only do we have a dumb mom/breeder in Cah Lee Fuh Nee Ah, we have the male counterpart, a stupid effing moron who deserves everything coming to him.

    http://www.usnews.com/blogs/alpha-co...-hardship.html

Now we all have NINE (9) more kids to raise with our own tax dollars.

Now, get over your silly morals and think about the people who really eff things up by putting more kids on the planet without thinking.

Good for BP and her kid, they were born into the 'right' kind of family and I pray to god that they are well taken care of.

And I'll toss in a prayer for the OctoKids and the other nine kids that this moron sired.

    Oh, and before I forget...

    Dear god,
Please don't let any more unmarried moms show up in the news. People don't know how to react to the story and I hope those people never have to deal with the issue in their own glass homes.

Richard, I read about this person the other day, and the thought crossed my mind that someone should introduce him to octomom. At least that way, he could father his next litter all at once

Your so right Karen, I found out my daughters best friend was active and did not want to go to her very catholic mother. I took her to get the pill but it took several trips and we had to drive quite a ways. Considering she does not drive it would have been quite difficult for her.

You haven't met my daughter and you never will and don't ever lump her in your generalizations. Just when I think you cannot be any more insulting to a group of people...

If there are still parents who think their teenagers are not having sex, well I have yet to meet one. It might not be what parents want or how they taught their child but it's what is.

So glad you daughter is not in need of the pill, thanks for making my point.
Your Catholic friend is exactly the kind of person whom I am speaking of.
No not all girls or boys need birth control, there are the exceptions.
Hope your friend doesn't get too upset with you if she ever finds out. After all you were only doing her a favor.

I do not remember the name of the "pundit" on Fox...Spears parents are bad parents because their teenage daughter got pregnant. Palin teenage daughter gets pregnant - he said it is a private family matter and should not be discussed. That is my meaning.

If she attended a school that teaches birth control including abstinence maybe she would have known what to do to avoid pregnancy.

I do think unwed teenage pregnancy is a big deal. Children born to teenage mothers are more likely to live in poverty and be subject to other disadvantages. I have thought of working in a program to help teenage girls see the advantages of NOT getting pregnant.

When my sister gave birth to a daughter I told my sister if the daughter remained a virgin until she was 21 I would pay her college.

Do I know if she remained a virgin? No. But there was one way I would have known for sure she was NOT. (I don't buy the virgin birth story...) and that was my objective.

She is a college graduate and I did pay.

And you bet your sweet bippy I think it would have been VERY different if it had been Chelsea Clinton. Fox Network et al would have been falling ALL over themselves talking about what terrible parents the Clintons were and about permissive liberals.

As Fox did when the Spear girl was pregnant. Remember???

Ok, just wanted to understand. So the hypocrisy as you see it is in the eyes of the pundit/s and not necessarily Bristol. I'm sure she knew how to prevent pregnancy. As I said, she probably got caught up in the moment and cast caution to the wind.

As for it being different had it happened to Chelsea, then there is no difference in how it's being handled. Bristol is taking the heat and if what you say is true, then Chelsea would take the heat as well. So there would be no difference except that the left is attacking Bristol and the right would be attacking Chelsea. It matters not from where the attacks come; it's still hurtful.

I also think that teenage unwed pregnancy is a big deal but my point is that to add harsh judgment to an already unfortunate situation only adds to the problem. I'm not saying that you or anyone on this forum is being judgmental but some of the pundits, to use your term, and bloggers have been. The young girls and boys in that situation have a tough future ahead of them without hearing that they're bad kids. They're kids, period, who have made bad choices but they shouldn't be branded or made to feel as though they're wearing a scarlet letter because they're doing what many others are doing but got caught at it and complicated their lives as a result.

We will have to disagree on this one Medusa. I think there would be great difference. I wish I could think of the guy's name - on Fox - he said the Spear's were bad parents and the Palin's should be left to their privacy. That is different handling of the situation.

I said I think if Chelsea had become pregnant the Clintons would have been treated as the Spears family was -- as "bad parents" rather than a family who should be left to privacy.

But as she didn't, neither of us can say with certainly how would have been handled.

Just want to clarify what I said!

Anybody remember when the vice-president complained about a t.v. show about an unwed mother?? (who certainly wasn't a teenager!)
