Phred, you can get all kinds of broths now at the store. For those who are vegetarian, you can get vegetable broth. You can buy beef, chicken, turkey, you name it really. You might want to look in the organic section as well, they should have "free range" broths and others without MSG. My mom can't use any foods that have certain preservatives in them, and even organic has some stuff in it, so reading the labels are a must.

Two utensils i cannot live without in my kitchen...

My whisks from Ikea, I just love them

My set of Santoku knives from Henckles. They make cooking so much easier when you have knives that chop easily.

Good set of knives is #1. The small grater which is good for cheese, zesting citrus, and grating nutmeg or allspice has turned out much more useful than we ever thought! Really good garlic press; we've killed so many garlic presses!

If we're talking about utensils, I have to have good sharp knives, wooden spoons and two kinds of sieves - and a can opener.

Also a teapot, coffeepot, cutting boards and blender.

    Reading labels =
WHY do they dump a half pound of SALT into a small "broth" box or can???

That stuff is BAD for my hearty-heart!

I looked it up ... Swanson (and a lot of the other packing houses) only do
    VEGGY Broth in CANS -
and not in those handy, re-sealable, fridge cartons.

I'll look a little harder the next time I'm pushin the grocery buggy.

I finally figured out what I can't live without.

    Parchment Paper.

I line everything I bake with it except casseroles. Cookie sheets. Bread pans. everything. Really helps keep the cookie sheets cleaner! No burned messes on the sheets!
