The post parade market is quite lucrative.

You used to be able to see the parade floats after for free. I went with my dad once to try, no parking -10 bucks a spot and three to get into the area.

A few years ago it's ? to park, 10 to get in and they strip the flowers, package them as potpourri and sell them for some jacked up price.

The float 'steel' and forms are recycled.

    ---------

Cold concrete on hemorrhoids is usually a good reason to skip a parade.

I'm feeling kind of un-American here, since parades, especially if they're lengthy, tend to bore me. I like the little hometown parades with the local fire companies and school bands - just short enough. I've never managed to watch the Rose Parade all the way through, and the only time I paid any real attention to it was the year back in high school when our school band was in it.

And the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia - 12 hours!- no way. This year the city cut funding so the parade was shortened to just over 6 hours. That's still at least 5 hours more than I could handle!

I remember that - the year was 1960. Does that date us?

You got it!!! I wasn't in the band, but had friends that were. It was such a BIG deal and was I ever envious! And in 1961 they were in the Inaugural Parade too. We may have been Little Rhody - but we were good!!!
I guess our age is no secret anymore! Yes all you young PTers - we've been around for a while.
