Richard, I was like you r Dad , when I was growing up. If there was a parade, I wanted to BE THERE!
Now I am happy to watch them on TV (local cable covers all the close ones!)
Off to watch the Rose Parade, one of my favorites!

.
Right now I'm watching (and taping) the Rose Parade. One of my favorite memories was when growing up in the sixties we would go down to my dad's appliance repair store (he sold TVs, too) and watch the parade on one of those new-fangled COLOR TVs! Now I'm watching it in hi-def.
So Richard, did you see the B-2 this morning? It was glorious.
For the first time in several years, I watched the parade from beginning to end. Loved it all. Watching on HGTV, and you see every float. Very few interruptions.
No, I didn't see it fly or on the tube...
I watched until I saw the people jumping in the pool on that one float and geve up....Too early and cold to swim!
I am waiting for the football game to start and the replay of the parade.![]()
I've never been to a big parade, only our little locals ones. I am sure I could have seen big parades, when I lived near Chicago, Indianapolis and Denver, but I guess I wasn't interested.
I took my son to parades when he was younger, but now that he is almost grown and doesn't care anymore, I certainly don't go. Crowds of people are not at all my thing, and the weather here is almost always lousy.
I remember watching parades on TV with my parents when I was a small child, I was fascinated by the huge balloons. But I haven't watched one on TV in decades.
So, I guess I'm the exception to "Everyone Loves A Parade".
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam
"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien
My Friend lives next door to Pasadena and he watches it from his T.V.
if he watches it all.
I started watching the re-runs and fell asleep.
I missed the Stealth bomber. My Aunt said it was awesome.
When I was with my X, we would sleep overnight in the car and
watch the parade the next morning. I remember how cold it was.
Now I watch it from the TV tube.
I got a kick watching the dog Tillman
ride the skateboard on the float. I remember him and his owner
from that T.V. program "Best talented Dog or something like that".

I LOVE parades! I always feel like I missed out on lots when I was young cause my sister was scared of EVERY bloody thing! Parades, clowns, circus', dark theatres...oi vey! We still give her a hard time about it.
I do remember going to the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade one year..I must have been 7 or 8, and freezing my proverbial tookus off!
I go to every parade I can now. Gay Pride in SF is not to be missed! I even rode a float onceLOL! St Pats is pretty fun too. I'd love to see the Rose Parade.
Fireworks and Parades are the two things that make me teary in a good way.
