Like him, hate him, more than half the country voted for him, and until the 20th of January he occupies the White House.

It's military thing.........You don't have to respect the officer, just the rank he/she has on their collar.

Trust me, he has been raised to respect the office of the President - even if disagreeing with or disliking the person holding it - for his whole life. That does not change when the occupants of The White House do.
