Iraqi dog cleared to come to United States

BAGHDAD (CNN) — A U.S. soldier’s adopted dog will be joining her in the United States after all, but the pup missed his flight out of Baghdad Wednesday when his U.S. military clearance to leave Iraq arrived too late.
Sgt. Gwen Beberg, who found and adopted the dog while serving in Iraq, had planned to fly Ratchet from Baghdad to her home in Minnesota as her deployment neared an end. But the military confiscated the animal as she prepared to send him to Baghdad Airport, an animal rights group said.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International, which has been trying to retrieve Ratchet since the October 1 confiscation, said it would make another attempt to bring him to the United States as early as Sunday.
