Actually, since I've gotten Jerry in January he has not changed shells at all. Yes, I have shells in there for Jerry, two in fact, but he seems perfectly happy in his own home, although it is a very bland shell. :P He's boring. Hermit crabs only really change shells as the grow. After they molt their exo-skeleton off they grow bigger and then they change shells. Bigger the crab=bigger the shell. Although they can swap shells whenever they want, a hermit crabs life in the wild revolves around shell swapping and changing just for the hell of it
