Zack is a handsome dude! Welcome to a new Pet Talk home, boy! Just ignore that Katie - she gets a little uppity now and then, but we love her anyway, as I am sure you will!

Well, this is the biggest surprise ever. This picture of you and Zack is precious, especially with Katie in the background keeping her eye on things. He is certainly going to represent your new and improved life. Having been someone who previously always had *girls*, I hope you too will have the most pleasant surprise of the loving ways of a boy dog.
Now that you have surprised us to such a degree, how about letting us in on (as they would say) the back story.

Well lets see.....When I was a little girl I always watched Lassie. Of course I wanted a collie! When I was a grown up I knew I would not do well at keeping up with such a long coat so decided that a collie probably wouldn't be the best breed for me for that reason.Originally Posted by Rachel
THEN....I joined PT in June 2003 where I discovered ParNone and her beautiful smoothie Oz. What? I said. There are Smooth Collies?! Off I went to do some searching at AKC and various sites. While searching I found Janna's website for SPIRITWIND COLLIES who at the time was living in Ohio. Fell in love with all of her Collies but especially her smooth boy, Zack. Kept tabs on her website and then what happens? Janna joined Pet Talk later that year! I think I pm'd and emailed her a few times always letting her know how beautiful I thought her collies were.
THEN...I discovered not long ago that she was retiring Zack and he was available to a pet home. I thought about it for awhile but quickly jumped at the chance. We made arrangements and one Saturday I was supposed to go pick him up, BUT I wound up stuck and having to work that Saturday. Then my car broke down and was in the shop for a week and then various other things started falling apart around me. Eventually I lost my job. I just felt like everything was telling me that I shouldn't go get him. I didn't think I could be financially responsible for him.
THEN...Janna made a few posts with pictures here at PT and it made me so sad because I wanted that boy so bad. That was when I pm'd Janna and told her my situation and about the financial part too and how much I still wanted him. She let me know that she would be giving him his yearly shots that week and that he wouldn't need to be vetted for another year and that if things didnt work out financially or with my girls that all I had to do was bring him back to her. That was it. I said I WANT HIM! I just felt like it was meant to be. Janna said she just wanted him to have a good loving pet home and be spoiled and loved and I knew that home was here. So I think it was 2 days later and I was off to NC to pick up my boy. Used a bit of my savings and cashed in a bunch of change for the gas money. Things are going really well and I'm happy. I'm confident that my spousal support and unemployment will kick in soon (I hate the waiting game) and that I will also have a job soon.
Hmm, I think that sums up the back story of the whole thing...lol. Sorry to be so windy about it. That is me! Always writing novels...lol. I really feel like getting Zack was meant to be and he has brought me happiness and a sense of peace. I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for asking, Rachel.
Windy? No way. Those were just the details I was looking for. Congratulations to both you and Zack.Originally Posted by RobiLee

Hi Robin!
As I said thru IM, Welcome to the Collie Club!I'm loving all the pictures. He is so adorable. Is that a kissable nose or what?
Ah, I see another 70Lb lap dog.
Oz says this is the best seat in the house.I left him at the vet one day for some tests and apparently they let him hang out in the back, loose, with them all day. The vet tech mentioned that while she was working at her desk, he was sprawled across her lap.
On the nose incident with Katie, Oz says he's quite sure she didn't mean it. That big ole Collie schnoze just can't help but getting in the way. At least that's what Idgie the Jack Russell told him the couple of times she nailed him there.
Looks like Zack does really well with the snow. I always wondered if those lil' nekkid barbie legs and feet would do okay.
You're gonna have to keep sharing lots of pictures and stories. I'm interested to know how similar he is to Oz and Gull. See if the things I equate to being a Collie thang, really are.
Les...

Oh.. rough or smooth they love the snow! Up until 2yrs ago, I lived in Ohio, so Zack has been in the snow before, and loves it! Actually my dogs love to roll around and play in the snow... kinda miss not having snow to often down here in north carolina.... the dogs sure loved it! Some day I'll live where its colder and gets more snow.. not sure if it'll be back in Ohio or not.. but it'll be some place with snow!
Here is one of my favorite pics of my rough blue girl in the snow one winter in Ohio:
This is Misty (Angie daughter from her first litter) in the snow going crazy!
Here is Ben and Pennie. Ben lives with my mom in Ohio... this was taken when I still lived up there. Pennie lives in PA. Boy do I MISS the snow!!.. one day... one day..

Sorry Robin, now I'm kinda taking over your thread with pictures.. but they are all Zack family atleast LOL
Here are pictures my mom just sent a week or ago of Ben (smooth) and Pete, her rough tri male she got from me when I was up in Ohio after Christmas. Feb 2007 my first Collie, Laddie had to be put down... he was an 85lb rough tri male. When I moved to NC I left him with my mom because he was just to old to move. He lived 1 more year to the date that I moved down here and had to be put down, his tired old body just wore out. He was 12 1/2 yrs old. So since Ben was all alone for almost a year and seemed like he needed a friend I took Pete to Ohio with me... Pete is a rough tri male (Zack son BTW.. Lucy's brother) who needed a loving pet home.... and so I took him to see how he would work for my mom.. and it has turned out beautifuly.. here are pics of Ben and Pete together.
Ben in the snow a few weeks ago.. Ben is 7yrs old.

Me with Ben, Paris and Kelsey... when I went to Ohio right after Christmas... took Paris and Kesley with me... to visit my mom and Ben.. and bring Pete to them.
If you're gonna breed Collies, don't you forget to breed in the brains and common sense. Without that you won't have a Collie, you'll have just another dog.
I've Been BOO'd!!
No need for sorries! I'm loving it!! So many gorgeous collies. Wow, Pete and Ben are so handsome. I'm so glad you posted pictures. What about Jethro do you have any more of him? I can't remember if you still have him at home or if he found a home. I should have grabbed him up also..lol. I want them all.
Zack is home and doing well!
This thread is making me want a collie! They are so beautiful. I especially like Kelsey, from what I've seen.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
I miss you
I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.
Fur as dark as the night.
Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

Here is Pennie AKA: JAWS
And here is a picture of "the old man" - Laddie, my first Collie playing with Kelsey when she was just a pup. This picture was taken when Laddie was roughly 10yrs old.. Kesley was about 2 1/2 maybe 3 months old... He LOVED puppies!!! was so gental with them. Didn't much like being bugged by the other adults, but he put up with puppies very well..
Laddie - 10yrs old
Laddie - October 16, 1994 - February 12, 2007
I got him for Christmas when I was 12yrs old, and he lived for 12 1/2 yrs. He was my 4-H dog, my agility dog, we did USDAA agility for a few years when he was younger and he loved it! He was VERY protective of me, and proved it on more than one occassion... But most important he was my first Collie - a true collie in heart and soul, and the reason I love this breed so much!!!

Oh my gosh! Zach is soooo handsome!! You look so happy with him, it's so great! I love the pics of the other collies too!
