I would rather Petsmart give the space to adoption programs as opposed to selling kittens outright. When I see the cats in the cubbies I want to bring them all home!
I think it's ok for some pets.
I think it's ok for a short amount of time - like a weekend.
I think it's ok for 1-2 weeks.
I think it doesn't bother the animals at all.
I don't like to see large animals in close confines of cages at all.
