OK this is the last update for about 2 weeks. I am going camping.
We took Boof to the rabbit specialist and she was great! She really knew her stuff. It took an hour to drive there, but it was worth it. Our usual vet said Boof looked fine to him, but if we thought he was acting strange to go to this lady. I am so glad we did.
Apparentely the supposed fat lump it actually an abscess!!! :O The lady said when rabbits have abscesses, the pus is so thick that nothing comes out when you try suck out anything with an injection. That is why the other vet thought it was a fat lump.
Even though the other vet checked Boof's ears, this lady did, and then shoved her finger down his left ear and pulled out a massive long hard cone of wax. poor little boof. it was about the size of birthday cake candles. It was from the abscess.
Apparentely the drooling and weird eating is because the abscess is pressing against his facial nerves and the left side of his tongue, eye and mouth are numb. The rabbit specialist said the abscess will hopefully go down. If it doesn't he might have to get it cut out. The feeling in the left side of boof's face may or may not come back. If it doesn't, he will have to get his teeth constantly filed down because he will mainly chew with the right side. So can you guys please pray for the feeling to come back.
The abscess has caused a middle ear infection and that is why he gets so dizzy and falls over when scratching or begging.
Anyway, boof has to talk an antibiotic (that smells like coconut) and an anti-inflammatory.
Also, the dry skin boof has between the shoulder blades that the other vet said was a skin condition is actually caused by some kind of mites in the hay. The other vet had given us quartazone for. This lady said never give rabbits quartazone as it lowers their immune system. She gave us revolution for him.
My mum also mentioned before gets diarrhea every now and then, and she said Boof was a little overweight, and gets too much pellets. She said pellets cause diarrhea in rabbits. we have to wean him off it and replace it with plain hay. Boof is not gonna like it, he loves the pellets.
We also bought a slicker brush for boof's fur because it gets a little matted near his butt. The vet said he needs to be brushed everyday, especially when he is shedding. We used to have a problem with the other brushes we used, but this slicker brush is great.
In summary, boof should start to perk up in about 3 days. We will have to deal with any complications after that. He is going back to the rabbit specialist in 2 weeks.
Thanks for your continued support. If you have a similar problem, and would like to know the names of the antibiotic and anti inflammatory, just message me.
Poor Boof has been through so much these past couple of weeks. Oh and Monica, Boof want to say hello to you and Benny. I told him that Benny was going through a tough time too. lol.
