I got this a few times, and it's been all over Yahoo groups too.

What flipping weird-o would do this?

The thing that I don't understand is each time I got the e-mail (that had been forwared a few times) I e-mailed the person that the e-mail started with and each time (3 times) they replied back to me saying "Thanks, but all the puppies have homes now."

I e-mailed them before I knew it was fake, otherwise I would have asked what the deal was!!!
