I can't talk for the police officer, obviously, but I know I have my dogs trained to NEVER leave the vehicle, even if they are left in it with doors wide open, until I tell them it is safe. This is because we travel a lot between Branson and St. Louis, a four hour drive, and sometimes have to make pit-stops along the way, gas stations, rest stops, whatever. Sometimes near busy intersections and I don't want them to just run out and risk getting ran over by a car. So they wait until I give them the "ok" command, and then they walk, not run, out of the car. Maybe he was trained the same way?

K-9 dogs are usually not trained to be passive. The dogs chosen for that 'job'
    are more 'outgoing' and motivated.

There have been cases where a K-9 will attack the handler, other officers, innocent members of the public and even the handler's family.

In the case of the handler who left his dog outside, later to be shot by a neighbor, He had an indoor cage for the dog when he took him home.

Why? If the dog was trained and 'safe' to be around his family?

These dogs are programmed to grab an arm and take that person down to the ground-and to top it off they only respond to commands from the handler-sometimes in German.

    This was reported on MSNBC.

I just caught the guy's name..

Mike Moore (why are all guys named Mike Moore dumb?) Is a cop some where in the noirthwest part of the U.S.

He pulled over a car for a traffic violation, what violation is in dispute, He put down two in his report.

The car took off , Moore took up chase and pulled the car over again-then turned over the arrest to another officer.

The driver of the car was a Mrs. Moore, another police officer, husband of Mike and driving drunk.

    -----------

They can't control their wives...they want to be dog handlers?
